are those the new boots that every one's been talking about?

tbby2:

Those would be the ones.

Are the new boots the ones that are being sold now at the orientations? Does anyone know the exact price we need to have our money order for? Will they take cash at orientation?

I received this in an email after I accepted my appointment and registered for Orientation:

There was also a section in the email which provided details on the 3 places we could purchase the boots (Military Clothing Sales Store, a military surplus store, or wait until In Processing or Appointee Orientation and buy them at the Academy), as well as the exact explanation for the type of boots needed. Should I post that also?

jmogs, this is an old thread (2005) with old information – new boots are sage green, not black – Mikil is giving the right info

Son just got back from orientation and had the following tips on boot purchase:

Purchase money order or cashiers check before you leave home and have it with you - line was long (as defined by an 18 yr old) to purchase money order near the boot fitting area on Tues.
or

Purchase money order or cashiers check on Monday from the Armed Forces Bank table - apparently, that line was very short. However, there wasn’t a lot of time between speakers to do this.

We’d purchased cashiers check and given to him before he left and was able to walk right in and have boots fitted.

Have fun to all who’ll be going to one of the remaining orientation sessions.

There is come conflict in the information posted about purchasing boots at Orientation on this site and on the serviceacademyforum site. Do appointees take socks with them (if yes, what kind) or are socks provided/sold with the boots? Some appointees from first Orientation say they were provided with socks, others say they brought their own, others say they had to purchase socks on the spot. Seems like a small point – but will probably cut down on the hassle to know the answer in advance (although it may not be handled the same way for every person).

We’ve been told by parents of current cadets to buy two pairs of boots at Orientation as recommended and to break in both pairs before IDay. Gives you a dry pair of boots if one gets wet during BCT-- helps prevent blisters. But today there are posts saying to buy only one pair. What is the advantage (aside from money) of buying only one pair of boots at Orientation?

Thanks - mom of Appointee

The boots hardly need any breaking in. I bought one pair at Orientation. I’d say just wear them to get your feet used to them. As for socks, I wasn’t provided with any, nor did I see anywhere to purchase them. I heard that some people bought some, but I never got the chance.
Also, you want to keep them clean for BCT. They are a suede material on the outside, which looks like it could stain easily. Also, carrying around 2 pair would be a hassle.

random side note… either my left foot is smaller than my right, or my left boot is bigger. I’m pretty sure my left boot is bigger. Weird.

Also… While we’re asking questions…

I’m thinking I might just ask my ALO if we could take a trip down to the local AFB and get them there instead of spending time at orientation in a line…

Gracias!

Sock were being sold in the store next to where the boot fitting was. They were about $9.12 per pair, IIRC. I bought one pair. My logic was that I will wear them around between now and June 25. If they feel fine, then I can pick up an identical pair. If there are some problems, then I can get a better pair on I-Day. I’d rather do that than risk having two pairs mis-fitting boots.

And Semper, I’m pretty sure it is the Belleville 650. At orientation they had a lot of Wellco boots with Belleville’s in the smaller sizes. I ended up with Wellco’s.

I received an email about purchasing boots after I registered for Orientation, but I had also recently sent in my acceptance. Not sure which action lead to the email…perhaps the combination of the two. I’ve heard of some appointees who received the email, and some who didn’t.

My son did not receive an email about the boots. Since he did not sign up for orientation, he had his 3* brother pick up (and pay for) and mail his boots to him. They are ugly, sage green, suede-looking leather. I cannot imagine what they will look like after a couple of weeks at Jack’s. Oh well, not my problem. : )

faded brown instead of sage green…
but comfortable as anything!

So… if I show up with boots that are already slightly faded how much crap will I have to put up with?

I would suggest bringing the slightly faded pair… that way you know they fit, plus they will be useful in jacks for the assault course

The boots I bought are jump boots. Will that be an issue? It didn’t say we couldn’t have them, just that they had to meet the rest of the qualifications.

What do you mean by “jump boots?” Regardless, you probably won’t want to be different from your classmates.

This is the model I got. They fit so perfectly, I didn’t even stop to notice that they were different.
