About the FTCAP

I recently received an email from Penn State reminding my that I have to take the survey and the tests on the FTCAP site, I completed the survey and I also practiced a bit with the math samples (they are very easy :)).

My problem though is that there is no sample test on the chemistry part and it has been a long time since I have done chemistry in school and I cant understand what kind of questions will the test contain. Does anyone here knows the type of question so I can practice a bit before I take the exam? Also doing bad on chemistry (on the FTCAP not in the first semester) will affect the lessons(CHEM110, MATH 140, ENGL15 or 30, EDSGN 100) I plan to take at first semester?

I’m in the same boat as you. I’m not worried about the math or English part, but the chemistry might get me. Where are those math samples that practiced on?

Do not worry about these tests. They merely serve as an advising tool. Your score on them helps suggest what level intro class you take. If you bomb the chem test and place into say chem 101 (basic chem, before the normal required class Chem 110), you can choose to ignore the test results and take chem 110.

The chemistry test covers a wide variety of topics including: simple atomic structure (atomic number and weight), nomenclature of common elements and compounds, the meaning of empirical and molecular formulas, equation balancing (non-redox type), simple stoichiometry (percentage composition, weight-weight calculations in a reaction), the mole concept (gram-mole conversions) and gas laws (Boyle’s and Charles’s).

@domcabano The practice tests can be found here https://cbt.site.psu.edu/PracticeFtcap/</a>
Put your PSU ID# and boom you are ready to take it.

@cwryan1 Thanks for the clarification

@Valkyrie67 I know the curriculum, I was asking about the format of the test (what kind of question will it have etc)

Again thanks a lot guys!

What I posted is what kind of questions it will have… straight from their website…
