About the Lien Scholarship...

Should the essay be more of a personal "life experience" one or one that is more of an intellectual discussion? I'm planning to write about the current system of medicine in the US and possible implications (overmedication, ethics, etc.). Not sure what major this would fall under, but I plan to take PNP as a major in Wash U.

Also, how much does the essay count for the scholarship? I know it's very important, but is it the dominant factor?

I'm applying for the Lien too. From what I know about it, I think it's best to go specific AND general - relate the topic to your own experiences as well as discourse on it intellectually.

And it's a very very important part of the scholarship, as it shows your interest in the social sciences as well as your thought process and how aware you are of the subject.
