About the optional photo

Did anybody upload a photo when filling out Columbia's application forms? I just can not figure out why...

To me, it seems like it humanizes the application. Gives adcoms a face to connect to it and such.

yea I did, to show them my humorous side

I'm wondering if anyone has ever sent a picture of someone else, like people do on those dating sites.

i charge 20$ if u wanna use mine... im a ny underwear model

They do it to weed out ugly people. Obviously.

I can't believe how many people have posted about the picture.

Soap is right, it's to weed out ugly people. Sorry.

thats simply not true.... CU is full of ugly students.... somehow when you have aesthetic appeal, you lack substance inside? they just want to make sure youre not downright ****ing grotesque

"somehow when you have aesthetic appeal, you lack substance inside"

that is wrong on so many levels.
not every smart persons a geek, you know.
many people take pride in their appearance on top of their personality and intelligence.

post a pic bball babe and prove me wrong. obviously you dont have too much substance since you cant comprehend sarcasm very well....

I want to see this underwear picture of you.

Sarcasm is dependent on tone, which unfortunately doesn't convert to text very well. Try the [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags if you're feeling extra geeky.

I think I'm just a strong believer in the human mind. Because when I read aCTyankee's post I just thought "Oh he can't be THAT stupid so it must be sarcasm."

That's how I measure internet sarcasm and jokes, if it is too stupid I would rather think of the person as a jokster than a total and complete dumb ass.

thank u luke. thats exactly how it was meant to be interpreted. you would think ppl could decipher sarcasm/other emotions better now that we're in the age of txt... guess some just got their first cell phone for christmas?

Perhaps you don't convey sarcasm very well.

Unfortunately, it also goes the other way. If I can't judge based on tone, then I'm going to have to judge based on how stupid/mean/polemic I think that person is and whether they are stupid/mean/polemic enough to actually mean what they wrote. It'd be nice to give people the benefit of the doubt but sometimes, I just really think that they are "a total and complete dumb ass."
