Hi! I am trying to write a ‘personal statement’ to apply for the residential colleges at NU.
The prompt is: For which residential college(s) would you like to be considered and what would you like to contribute to it (them)? (200 or fewer words)
Kinda confused about what to include in it. Since I will be applying to more than one college and obviously mention their names, it’d be hard to tailor an essay of 200 words to every one of those colleges. Then do I just show them what’s unique about me? I was thinking talking about a few points that differentiated me from other applicants. Do I still need to talk about how I will fit at each college then?
Thank you all very much for your help in advance:)
Both my NU kids lived in the same res college for 4 years - and both enjoyed the experience. Res colleges are “themed”, so you should write about how you fit the theme, and how your skills and abilities can contribute to the res college. Good Luck!
I don’t think Willard is themed. I lived there for my first two years before moving into my sorority. Loved Willard!! Here’s their website. Maybe you can find some insight into what to write in your essay. Good luck!

I also have the same question. Should I just write a generic essay speaking of why I prefer RCs or should I focus on specifics?
I’d focus on the specifics for each RC you’re interested in. I think it would be a good idea to just answer the prompt since you only have 200 words - write down the RC(s) you’re interested in, and what you think you could contribute to the community (based on your personal qualities and those of the RC).
