Hi!!! I’m a senior in high school right now and I am very conflicted about where the best college for me is. I am applying to Cal Poly, Pepperdine, sdsu and USD! I don’t know too much about cal poly but have heard great things about the school from many people! I was wondering if there is anyone who knows about cal poly who could tell me about what there is to do around campus, is it easy to meet people, what are the study abroad programs like and if they recommend the school? Any feedback would be great! Thank you!

Well cal poly is known as a great agric, eng, and arch school. As for other majors I don’t know how we stack up against your choices. Without knowing your major I can’t help much there.
There is a lot to around campus. We have a lot of trails that are great for hiking. There’s a large rec center with basketball, racquetball, pools, rock climbing walls, an indoor track, and weights. There is a lot of surfing nearby though if you live on campus without car it would be hard to bring your own gear down there. However, it is easy to rent gear at the beach or to find someone to hitch a ride with. The restaurants are incredible and I have yet to have a bad meal. Students get free bus rides so everything in town is easy to reach. One of the largest farmers market (it may be the largest) in the country happens in town every Thursday night. There are a lot of local musicians and food carts in addition to the produce. There are a lot of plays, sporting events, and comedy shows on campus. Tickets for home games are free and moat other tickets are fairly cheap. Meeting people will largely depend on you. I would suggest trying out a bunch of different clubs. Without your major or interests I can’t suggest any but there are a lot of them. Everyone I’ve met has been very warm and inviting. I’ve seen a lot of people go out of their way to help someone. Study abroad is very big here and most faculty encourage it. There are too many places and programs to cover them all but it is there.

Another thing to consider is cost. Cal Poly is much cheaper than UCD and Pepperdine. Something to consider though I wouldn’t recommend attending a school you hate if you could have afforded the one you loved.

I would highly suggest going on a campus tour. If you are admitted regular decision then you have to attend open house. It was the single most important factor in my final decision.

Thank you this was very helpful!!!
Sdsu. Way bigger city and many more opportunities. Plenty of things to do.
Source: I’ve lived in SD for a year, hands down the best city in CA.
Yes I agree San Diego is the best city in CA, but honestly San Luis Obispo is comparably the best college town in America. There is so much to do, people are amazing, and the school is top notch. It should be an easy decision!
I visited SLO, it just really depends on the person. It’s a small town, to me it didnt seem like there was much to do. San Diego, there are just endless things to do and it won’t get old because there’s many places to see. They are both different environments, I would advise to check out both SLO and SDSU before you do anything. SLO does have a better reputation for academics, but in my opinion, you will be living there for the time being in college. You need to see what surrounding area you want to be in for the next couple of years. This matters the most, trust me.
BTW, parties are nuts in SD. And when you hit 21, live in Pacific Beach.
SDSU>SLO (environment, surrounding area, social life)
SLO>SDSU (Academics, but SDSU is super impacted as well, impacted like crazy for a reason… SDSU is good choice)
