<p>I made a pact with a higher power to abstain from a certain act if I was accepted into Harvard. </p>
<p>I was wondering if anyone made any other drastic decisions or promises.</p>

<p>I was about to make a similar pact, but then I remembered "Amadeus" (the movie) where Salieri tries to 'buy' genius from God. He wanted to be as famous and talented as Mozart, and he thought that talent could come by prayer and abstinence (!) Needless to say, God had more important stuff to do than listen to a mediocre, infatuated man's plea for virtually undeserved fame. </p>
<p>Philosophy aside, I'd be happy to abstain from certain things if I got into Harvard. I would see it as a way of thanking God (not trading with him) for his support.</p>
<p>lol..i've made "pacts" if you'd call it that--I think it's more like 'i'd rather' deals--as in I'd rather not be accepted to any of my other colleges if i get 1 acceptance to harvard than the other way around.</p>
<p>no matter how you think about it tho, it's not any pact you make that gets you admitted--it's your own merit (or in relatively rare cases huge monetary donations).</p>
<p>pact only applies for the month prior to decisions.</p>
<p>I made a pact too, but it was more like if I get into one of my top 3...lol :) Anythnigs that helps relieve the nerves.</p>
<p>Haha....well as long as the pact only lasts until decisions come in. Otherwise I was going to say...</p>

<p>Abstinence negotiations don't work if you can't get any to begin with.
It's like saying I'll promise to not win the lotto if I get accepted.</p>
