Academic Advisors

I know they assign you academic advisors based on the college in which you hope to major.

I applied to Natural Sciences (I thought I would be an Ecology & Evolutionary Biology major to get my premed stuff in) but this was before I found out I got Rice-Baylor.

Now, I'm leaning towards Social Sciences. I know they say you can switch Academic Advisors, but isn't that really awkward? I mean, doesn't it seem like you're ditching your advisor because you found someone better?

But then again, it probably wouldn't make sense to stay with an academic advisor from a college you're not majoring in.

Advice?

Yeah, I applied to engineering, but I’m 99% sure I don’t want to pursue it anymore… So…

I though Rice/Baylor has their own advising?
Guess I was wrong…

It really doesn’t matter what you applied as. Switching is not a hassle and your adviser probably won’t even notice.

Rice advisors KNOW that most kids switch majors, and they certainly don’t take it personally!!! DD switched majors many times - no prob.

During O-Week, the Natural Sciences advisor that my daughter was assigned to suggested that she also talk to an engineering advisor, which she did. She ended up switching schools (to engineering) by the end of her Freshman year. They won’t be insulted! They want you to choose what’s right for you and helping you figure that out is part of the job.

its not a big deal. i am an engineer, due to scheduling conflicts on her part never met my engineering advisor. not until sophomore year. So I kinda had a couple other advisors help me out

its not a big deal
