So i got a Academic Dishonesty referral today because I was allegedly plagiarizing my best friends work. We both had very similar themes and we also discussed our ideas with each other every weekend. So we both had similar papers and we were both going to get a referral unless one of us took the blame. So i took the blame since his dad would literally kill him if he got a referral.
So i want to know, do colleges see my academic dishonesty referral at all? Thats all I need to know
yes
how serious is this and is there any way I can attempt to fix it?
I am not sure why someone said “yes”. There is no way to know. Many schools have a policy of not conveying that sort of information to colleges. And even those without the policy usually don’t convey that information to colleges. It is generally an internal matter. You can ask your school. But the idea is to learn the lesson now-not to ruin your life. So I’d be very very surprised if your high school conveyed that information to colleges. After all, schools tend not to have due process at a level that would result in an indisputable (or at least replicable) decision. You will need to rectify the situation in your high school but it is likely not something that will impact on your college applications. Talk to someone at your school about their policy.
@lostaccount would my G.C. know if they share the information and who has the power in my school to excuse a referral lostaccount? ( I’m actually really scared as this is the first referral and serious trouble I have ever gotten into)
Yes, your GC should know what your school’s policies are. Speak with him/her.
Your GC would be the one who would communicate this info to colleges (or not, as the case may be). Some HS’s have the policy that discipline is an internal issue not to be shared, but every HS is free to set its own policy. As others have stated, you need to talk to your GC; none of us here will know for certain.
