Academic Dismissal

Well I've done it.
This morning, I've officially received an e-mail notifying me that I've been academically dismissed.
Had a lousy freshman year at UIC, with straight C's first semester, and finally 3 F's and 1 B in second semester, which brought my overall GPA to 1.2

Never been in an environment where you're best friends are only a room away from your dorms, and rules, parents, the law is just so far away to control you.

I am pretty ticked, because I did pretty good on all the finals, except that I missed a lot of homework credit for all the classes, which eventually doomed me. Not to mention 3 out of 4 classes were not using any sort of a curve or grade cut system. (Hence the B in that one class)

I do plan to schedule an appointment with my advisor and just try to sort this god-awful situation.

What I want to ask is... before going to an academic advisor who'll probably tell me the more "standard" procedures...

What do I do now?

I've seriously thought about taking drastic measures to discipline myself, as this is the MOST tragic moment of my life I've ever experienced.

Instead of the standard transfer to CC for 2 yrs, etc, I thought about joining the military and try to live a different life to discipline myself.

But then, the other part of me says, 'hey this is no big deal, just go to CC for a year or two, and I can start over again'.

I just can't seem to come to a conclusion.
Any help and advice would be very much appreciated.

Skim.

Have you talked to your family yet?

Bask in your misery. Remember this day and especially how you feel. Blame yourself. Don’t go easy on yourself, but let yourself have it. Take it all in.

Then dust yourself off and get back on the horse, a better person. That wasn’t so bad. Failure is an important step to success. You can recover better and stronger.

You can live a more disciplined life without joining the military.

Go to CC this summer. You’ve wasted enough time already.

Good luck.

CC. you are not the first to mess, won’t be the last. Learn from it. Focus on your goals. Move on.

… it worked for my brother after flunking out his freshman year. Completed his degree later with military help, and is very successful now. But only you can make that decision.
