Hi all,
I’m a sophomore at BU on academic probation. In my first semester I had a GPA of 2.35 and in my second I fell to 1.87 bringing my cumalative to 2.1. I was put on probation as a result of my semester GPI not being higher than 2.00.
I had a really bad semester this semester starting with my grandfather dying and bringing on depression combined with hopelessness of not making it through the semester. I also had a bunch of money problems causing me to work much more than necessary and concentrating on that instead of my school work. Filling hours suddenly seemed more important than doing hw. I have recieved 2 C’s a C- and and F. This brings my cumalative to about 1.80. With a semester GPI of 1.18.
Am I to be dismissed? Is there still hope? I was planning to write a letter to the academic committee explaining my situation but it just seems unbelievable. Will they believe my grandfather dying or will they think it is simply an excuse?
I really cannot be dismissed, please tell me what to do!!

Have you even talked to the academic advising department? I would start there, many students have issues and every school really wants all its admitted students to stay and pay and succeed.
