hey I just wanted to know what this means. some of my friends said that the course is very tough and some have been getting this dismissal and have to appeal. thats scares me. what are the chances after appeal?any idea. just want to know.

The coursework is very challenging, but few people ever actually ever get dismissed. Failing out happens after three strikes, and a strike comes from having either a term or cumulative GPA below a certain limit (1.8 freshman year, 2.0 after that). So it takes a minimum of two quarters to fail out, and the student has plenty of warning. The only two students I know that were dismissed for this reason both appealed and were both readmitted, however they both left again. If you are willing to work and stay on top of the academics you won’t have a problem. As we’ve said elsewhere on this board, Rose does everything it can to help you if you take advantage of the help. If you’re struggling in a class, go and talk to the professor, go get help at the learning center, or talk to someone on your floor who’s also in the class.

Yeah, same here, I know folks who have been “academically dismissed.” In all cases it was a matter of them not having the gumption and work ethic. Plenty of folks at Rose were able to more or less coast through high school, even with challenging classes. The ones who don’t make it at Rose are the ones who don’t recognize that the same does not work at college. They’re also the ones who wouldn’t care enough to post on a college discussion forum agonizing about whether or not they can make it at Rose.

You don’t have to be a super genius to make it through Rose. Just willing to work hard and use your resources.
