Academic Dismissal from UC Davis. Please help me out. Thank You

Hi,

I am a UC Davis student who was recently dismissed due to academic reason and now they are telling me that I can not return for 3 whole quarters so that would be in next June to make up my classes and maybe able about to return to school then. I am not sure what my options are and would like it if people can help me out here. I am going to explain fully what happened and maybe someone out there has a way to get me out of this mess.

So I am a transfer student from a community college who stated to attend UC Davis in Fall 2010. Thing were ok Fall quarter and I ended up with a 2.33. Near the end of Fall and beginning of Winter I stated to go though problems such as depression and anxiety. I had put off my mental issues thinking I was just the issues of being away from home and I thought it would just pass but it became a lot worst down the line. So I was just unable to focus on school and my grades began to slip to 1.73 Winter quarter and I was put on academic probation. At the end of Spring i ended up with a 1.41 and they told me to make up classes in the summer to be able to stay at UC Davis and summer was a complete disaster with school and my mental issues. I finally began to see someone for my issues but UC Davis told me I was dismissed wont be able to return to school until next summer session which is June 2012.

After seeing a therapist for a while now its come to my attention that most of my issues are family caused and I cant do anything about but take care of my life and finish school. I am ready to move on now and would like to piece my life back together and really have another shot to finish school.

Well I have talked to the counselors a bunch of times to figure what I can do but they are not give me a right answer. So what are my options from people’s experiences about my situation? Is there a option to transfer to another school with a bad academic standing?

Please help me out, I would really appreciate it.

Thank You

I totally feel you! What is your major?

All of this because of family issues? I see you have no control on that matter, but think again when you face those problems again. THINK HARD. Not trying to sound harsh here, but you have to learn to deal with problems like this before move on.

I went to UC right out of H.S. and took 2 quarters to get my butt kicked out. 1 F in Calculus and 1 D in Microeconomics. That’s why you take easy load at the beginning, so you get time to adjust to the environment. (And settle whatever issues) It’s possible to transfer with a dismissal, but you have to spend at least 1 year at CC to bring up your grades. Or, you retake those failed classes and try to transfer. Either way, you can’t transfer immediately.

Oh yeah, I was like you, blaming on family issues. No, please don’t. That’s not how you learn. My parents was going through divorce and I was depressed about it. I was even put under 72 hours watch from suicide.

Good luck.

Hey Gold sorry to hear about your situation. If you cant return for 3 quarters just take the time to prepare yourself for going back to school. When you do come back, just try your hardest, and if you start having problems again, go talk to someone. There are so many resources our school offers, take advantage of them! oh and like MattKen said you should really take it easy your first quarter. I was going to take a bunch of classes my first quarter, then i realized that as a transfer, at least for me, you really dont have to take many courses, unless your major is really demanding.
