Academic Honors necessary for admission to Harvard

I was looking over the common application, and there was a designated area for "Academic Honors". Do students who are accepted to Harvard usually have Academic Honors? Are they necessary for admission to a school like Harvard? I am afraid when I apply to colleges I may have to leave that blank. Is that bad? Thanks.

It's fine. Some high schools don't have them, and Harvard knows that.

my school does have in school awards, and I have received 2 or 3, but on the common application it states in brackets " examples: Cum Laud or Nation Merit Scholar". Are those things necessary?

If you're a high school senior, it would be impossible for you to list National Merit Scholar.

Commonapp is imperfect.

National Merit Finalist is totally possible...

If you're a National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist, put that, but if not, it's DEFINITELY not required for admission. That's important for me to stress.

And many (most?) schools don't have cum laude.

You won't receive notification of whether you've advanced to National Merit Finalist status until after the application deadlines. You can still put National Merit Semifinalist though.

thanks for the replies! they are very helpful!

I think that might also have been where I put AP scores, though Harvard's supplement asked for them again. Also, yeah, national merit, NHS, National French Exam, Harvard Book Award... I think those are the things I put on there. I don't think that section is very important though - those sorts of things do not really show what Harvard is most likely looking for, which is intense dedication to a few specific interests.
