Academic Importance

OKAY.
If there's already a thread for this, delete this post, but if there isn't, I think it would be a good and useful thread to have here.

This is is something that has been bothering and confusing me.

I know academics are incredibly important and can ultimately put you at an advantage for some schools when they are down to the last few and choosing between performers to admit.

I just need someone to confirm for me if auditions are more or less important in the longrun...or...can someone tell me if they are the deciding factor or not? I need to communicate something about the auditions to my mother who is completely focused on my SAT scores and academics and thinks of the audition as a secondary factor in MT college admission (which I think isn't true at all, but maybe I'm wrong). My mother is completely supportive of my decision to go into MT and wants me to succeed, but she's just not a stage mother or anything and is sort of thrust into this whole new aspect of college (she got through my both older brothers' normal applications-they ended up at Stanford/Harvard and Willamette)...she just needs help with new lil ole me.....yeah...I'll take any help I can get!

thanks, love, ToTheStage

Like so many questions - depends totally on the school. It ranges from schools where, if you don't meet the academic requirements, you will not be granted an audition, to some where the audition is paramount, as long as you got your HS diploma. The important thing is to know what the situation is for the schools you want to consider.

See Test Score & GPA Requirements thread I bumped for you.
