Thoughts?

Well, the ED deadline is drawing near. Did you get an offer of support from the coach? did they do an early read through admissions?

I remember you posted before; what has happened since then? Do you have any non-ivy coaches also trying to recruit you?

The coach should be able to give you a pretty good idea by now, I would think. Good luck!

Yeah my number 1 choice coach said that he would fully support me in admissions and that he hopes that me with a current freshman, will be the core of the jump program there.
I have a couple of non ivy coaches but we havent been in contact in a while.

Did he offer you a “likely letter?” Others know more, but it sounds like that is as close as you can get to full support from an ivy coach - and it’s pretty airtight unless you do something to invalidate the offer.

^^Support as in a slot? I am confused now because when we visited son’s favorite school (also an Ivy), coach told us that he was losing 9 seniors, but admissions would only let him use 4 slots (not sure if that is the word he used; I have NESCAC on the mind), so he still needed 5 other players. I don’t know if he can “support” those players or not. Are you talking an actual “slot” or support? I think you need a higher AI for just support and the lower for a slot. The number 200 sticks in my mind as the magic AI that this particular school wanted for my son’s sport.

So ask the coach for a LL. Or ask if he had your application “vetted” by admissions. Or ask what percent of students that he supports %100 get in. Apologize, and say" I’m sorry to bother you, but I’m new at this and I’m a little nervous" first, if you want. But ask something. We aren’t sure that you have enough assurance for peace of mind between now and the middle of December.

I have emailed my coach and asked him for one but he has not responded
He says he is thrilled to have me commit and all signs are pointing to me being accepted. I want the likely letter but i do not know if they offer them.

A little scary to me. He should say right out if they do or do not offer them…Of course he’s thrilled for you to commit. I think you need to call someone. Who did you speak with the most?

I speak to the head coach the most but i already applied ED… should i be worried that i might not get accepted?

200 is the magic number my daughter was told also. With an AI of 185, I would think a Likely Letter would be needed to gain admission. If I were you, I would keep my iron in the fire until you have a Likely Letter or an acceptance. Keep in contact with the other coaches! This sounds like a one-way commitment on your part to me.

I think there’s something subtle to point out here:

The Ivy coaches have a set number of slots for recruits. For those Ivies with ED or EA, once they are sure those recruits have submitted their applications in time for that deadline, they can relax. They may or may not issue a LL. For those recruits who ask for one, they will rally and get one in the mail. For the others on the slotted list, if the athlete doesn’t ask for the letter but is satisfied that the coach is being honest with them and that they are on the short list and will be admitted, there is no LL.

So for erolimes, I think (and hope) what’s happening here is that he or she is on the slot list and will be admitted without the LL. That might be the question to ask the coach: I know we never really discussed LLs, but I’m assuming I’m on your short list and that admissions is confident they’ll take me.

If there was any doubt about that, I would think the coach would advise you to do something about your AI, like retake a test…

Best wishes, erolimes. I think this will work out in your favor…

erolimes, I remember your posts from before and I would feel nervously confident that the coach is telling you the truth. Sort of how I feel after letting my daughter commit to a 20% scholarship because she is “probably” getting another 20% in merit aid but we won’t know until December.

Since you’ll have your answer in less than two months anyway, if the coach can’t offer you anything other than “looks good,” then you will just have to sit tight and wait it out! Please make sure you let us know what happens when you get that news!

thanks you very much riverrunner…i hope it works out well ! :)

Yes. we all wish you the best-just be sure to have a back-up plan, which we hope will not be necessary
