I am an accounting major and got caught using notes for an exam. It was just plain stupid of me. I saw others doing it and didn't realize how serious this was.

I got an auto F in the class and its placed on a file separate from transcript.

I know I made a grave mistake, but since I can't go back now, I can only do better from now on. I don't know if I can even move on in my career with this record.

I was reading other forums and saw that pre-med students who violated don't have a chance of going to med school. I am worried I won't get hired now by any accounting firms. Should I even think about getting a CPA or even hope for a future?

Please, someone shed some light on this. I don't know what to do with my life and how to tell my parents about this.

Talk to the advisor at your school. Explain you understand what you did wrong but do not fully understand how that affects your future. They should be able to answer your questions. Don’t worry about being embarrassed, just get a full explanation and do not get defensive but be humble and apologetic. My guess is if you can still complete your major you will eventually be able to seek your CPA. It may not be with one of the bigger firms, but time will tell. I don’t think it’s over for you but each school has its own guidelines so check with them.

Its for a GE that I am taking for Pass/No Pass, which makes it even more stupid.
I was concentrating very hard on focusing on my major courses and recruiting I didn’t take the GE seriously. As well, when I looked for support from my TA, he never cared, never graded most of the stuff even though finals are now over. I never really understood my standing in the class and as a result, I made a bad decision.

I will be meeting with the dean soon and I really don’t know what to say.
I just hope I don’t get kicked out at the moment.
