So I was in the library and I saw all of my friends doing their AP world work, just remembering that i had to get it done too, I asked one of the students around my table if i can see his so i can get copy some of the terms. The teacher of my my class came in and saw me and i got caught with an honor code violation. I feel like such an idiot about this and i apologize to him after class, but the thing will still go on my record. Everything was going so well until today, all of my grades were doing fine until this had to happen. I just have a few questions, how bad is this going to look on my record, because i want to go to like a business school like Purdue or Penn state, but they'll probably not going to accept me after this happened.

You have no chance. Business is all about bending and breaking rules and codes and not getting caught. You have just shown them that you can’t get away with it.

On the other hand, you’ve shown them you have the gusto to try it.

But seriously, I don’t think it’s as big of a deal as you think it is.

ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! I feel like crying right now, I’m such an idiot, why did I not do it by my self, and then my friend told me they don’t send it unless the college requests it, but how do you know

Everyone copies homework at some point. It’ll all apart of the “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” thing. There are worse things to get caught cheating for.

I doubt it’s a big deal.

Tru dat yo.

Please explain the honor code in detail. Perhaps if you were simply copying the terms by hand and if they were not going to be graded anyways, you can get away with it lolz :)

Well, the guy called my mom and told her and wrote me up. I don’t know, i think it’s for a hw grade, it was a study guide for an AP World Class that i forgot and didn’t have time because of chemistry.

Lmao no colleges
don’t check your record, unless your high school puts that kind of stuff on the transcript, which I doubt. I’d say 99% of CC has copied SOMETHING in high school, or cheated.

Colleges know we all do it. That’s why thy can’t base everything on academics and ask for essays rec letters and standardized test scores

stop freaking out and welcome to the reality of high school

If you violate the honor code by “plagiarizing” or “cheating” it goes on your transcript and colleges see it because the school/counselor is usually required to mention it.

I’m not sure about your specific case since homework copying is pretty common. But if it went on your record as an academic violation, then your chances will be hurt.

At my school, honor violations and cheating are taken very seriously (not homework-copying, but blatant cheating on exams or plagiarizing essays).

Copying homework, on the other hand, is really no big deal. If people were rejected from colleges for trivialities such as this, the Ivy halls would be empty.

Wow you are screwed.

Where are you from and do you go to a public/private HS? Everyone @ my school helps each other out with homework, and today nobody did the AP Econ homework so we literally had a table packed full of 13 kids doing it.

Can’t you tell the teacher you didn’t understand the work or something along those lines?

I don’t want to cut down Penn State as it’s a good school, but it sounds to me like you’re more than qualified to get in there regardless of this recent unfortunate happening. I know some people going there next year whose grades and SATs aren’t that great (one kid has a 3.2, 1800) and when i checked naviance for Penn State, some students with pretty bad scores got in.

Don’t sweat it man! It’s out of your control. Just take this as a wakeup call for the future- I am sure that you’ll get into a great college.

Good luck!

You may want to explain what happened in the “additional info” box when you apply to college.

However, you may also want to have a copy of the transcripts mailed to yourself and see if they even mention it. No point in shooting yourself in the foot, if it’s not on there.

sry, idk why but my post just appeared again even though i wasn’t on the page (***)
