Academic Probation Question

Hello. I am a junior engineering student at UCSD and I have not been able to get in touch with my college due to freshmen orientation and the weekend. Although I submitted my questions through the virtual advising on MyTritonlink, I am going to call them Monday. Having said that, I would really like student input on my situation. A couple of you have probably been in my situation or have friends that have gone through this.

My story is almost the same as
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/1338215-academically-disqualified-transferring-back.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/1338215-academically-disqualified-transferring-back.html</a>
(it's a quick read)

Differences:
1. my final term GPA (spring 2012) is between a 1.5 and 2.0 - academic probation (academic disqualification is below 1.5).
2. My overall GPA is above 2.4 (good standing)
3. I transferred last fall. This means I have most lower div and some upper div classes finished.

Since I have academic probation, I was thinking about taking a medical leave of absence (hopefully such a thing exists. Again, it has been hard getting a hold of my college advisors) for the year and return back in fall 2013. During this time I would take classes at my transfer comm college that can be finished and kick ass.

Has anyone done this? I'm scared that if I go on leave and go through the readmission process (How to Apply for Readmission to UCSD (Undergraduates) ) that my app will be rejected. It seems like a 50/50 shot to me once you leave. I heard having a "doctors note" helps for "exceptional circumstances" but all cases are different. I have never known anyone who went through this process and I need to hear the bad news if there is any.

My graduation is not going to be pushed back and taking classes at my CC actually helps me finish some of those pesky engineering lower div requirements.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

thank you.

why are you taking a leave of absence? academic probation does not mean that you are kicked out of school. you can retake whatever classes you need to next quarter.
