UF, the Harvard of the South? Really... never hear that before. Not many Californian's consider schools in the South, except for sports scholarships... except possibly Duke.

Heh...I was gonna say that Duke is the only real contender in the South, but CA2006 beat me to it.

yea I sware people have said that to me. I think It's partly because there's no schools in Florida that are really top 20 schools like kyledavid80 said. It's just in the past years that UF's became the first school in FL besides maybe UM thats gotten somewhat more selective so people seem to have gone overboard on the rep.

I've heard of Duke and occasionally Vanderbilt, but never UF. I almost never even hear about UF. Maybe it's a Florida-only phenomenon.

In any case, Berkeley is a good school, a lot better than UF, but I still wouldn't call it the Harvard of the West. That title probably belongs to Stanford.

No, UF really is the gold standard in Florida. I'm sure it is a state-only issue. Unfortunately, it's no Harvard (nor Berkeley or UCLA... probably on par with other UCs)...

sofla, I'm glad to see another Floridian taking the plunge with me...

Yeah, I'd say UF is more on par with UCSB/UCD/UCI, which is still pretty damn good.
