Academic Scholarship: who gets it?

Holy cow, they really are generous with their academic scholarships! I'm currently a junior and recently took an ACT prep test and got a 30, with a 3.9 GPA...so this makes me really happy.

It's here, in case anyone hasn't seen: http://www.okcu.edu/financialaid/ugradscholarships.asp

Hollylove, Your are right. My D. just got accepted into the university with an 11,000 scholarahip. Her stats are very similar to yours. Next, we need an Audition and an acceptance to the music school. I hope the talent awards are equally as generous. The acceptance letter says we need to call within two weeks to accept the scholarship. How can you do that when you haven't even auditioned yet? This seems premature.

Wow, Chelle, you must be so happy and proud of your d!

I have a question: at what time of the year did your d take her SATs/ACTs? My d is a Junior and I'm wondering when the best time would be for her to take them.

Chelle,

Same thing happened to us. Talk to your admissions rep. We were told to go ahead and accept (also within the 2 week time frame) but that it is NON BINDING. So if you decide to go elsewhere, or are not accepted into your program of choice, you just have to be sure to let them know. It seems it just earmarks that money for you in their system.

Good luck at the audition. It is a great school and my D is very pleased with the program so far. Feel free to PM me for any ??'s.

My D. took her SAT's in May and her ACT's in June. She did much better on the ACT's. She is retaking the ACT's next week, but decided not to retake the SAT's since we believe most schools take the higher of the two. She never had much time to prepare or retake them many times as some kids do.

Acceptance of the scholarship is non-binding with regard to admission to the school itself. Truth be told, the two weeks is not even a huge deal but it doesn't hurt to get it done.

OKCU also has a tuition freeze option that is very good. it's only been around 2-3 years and I think they are still figuring out how to get it where they want it but it still seemed to make financial sense this year so we opted in. the freeze rate was only around 10% higher than this year's rate and the annual increases have been running closer to 9% each year so there's still a pretty good chance you come out ahead.

Mikksmom...it was a happy weekend 55% in a 3-way race. S joined us via internet (webcam) video link. very cool. people at the party would come up to the table and visit with him just as if he were sitting there; they'd drift away, someone else would come up, another would come back. I think it was great.

Thank goodness for this thread! It's Christmas break, the admissions offices are closed, and I just opened my mail (sent almost 2 weeks ago) and was in a bit of a panic. I was lucky enough to receive their most generous scholarship offer (I'm on cloud nine), but was worried about getting it in and making sure it was non-binding since my audition isn't until March 29th! Congratulations to everyone else as well!

So it was an academic scholarship? Congrats! Maybe you'll score big with a talent scholarship also!

Kaitrin, Call your admission rep and let them know you are still interested! And Congrats!! You will love it there!

I got both an academic and talent scholarship as a transfer. Combined they account for a lot, but not all, of my hypothetical tuition (I haven't decided whether I'm going to attend yet). Hope this helps anyone who's curious.

P.S. Just because you don't get a scholarship immediately doesn't mean you won't get one eventually. If people who accept scholarships decide to turn down admission (eventually) I would assume that money becomes open for those who do end up attending. I would say keep in touch with the counselors about that.
