For those of you with kids who were accepted, when you received your FA package, is there a separate mailing for talent awards? Or is talent listed in the same letter as academic awards for your S or D?
When we originally applied/auditioned, we were told there was a significant amount that could be given on the talent side. It appears in my D’s award letter as if academic awards were given, yet it doesn’t list “talent award” anywhere on the letter, and the amounts do not add up correctly. I know this sounds confusing, but I’m trying to make sense of it, and my email to the department hasn’t been answered yet. Any input/insight is greatly appreciated. :)

My S’s FA package included a talent award and an achievement award which I’m guessing to be academic. Hope this helps.

My D’s FA package letter has not come yet. It might be because she is a transfer student. She did not know what she wanted to major in so she went to college and took some core classes. After a month of not rehearsing for shows she missed it so much that she wanted to audition for MT schools. I will email ONU and see what’s up

My D’s acceptance package from ONU did not mention $$ at all - but neither did the original yay you’re in letter from Western Michigan. We got the financial stuff a week later WMIU. Hoping ONU is the same… and it’s coming?

I emailed admissions yesterday and I got an email this morning from financial aid saying that my D’s letter will be in the mail next week.
I hope it’s some good news.

Y’all have a great weekend.

@DoReMiMom We received our FA package from ONU and did not mention a talent award either. Did you ever hear back from them? I am going for a visit in a couple of weeks and I will ask them about it.

I did hear back from them and they said they’d look into it and get back to me. Shortly thereafter, we received a new FA package with a Dean’s Scholarship, academic award, travel award and a talent award. They do make it very affordable, which is another bonus of this school. I hope this is where my D chooses in the end. We visit Point Park Friday and ONU on Monday. Hopefully we will be able to commit by this time next week.

Okay Thanks for the info. Have a great visit

Thanks @HNHDAD. You will likely get another letter regarding talent. This 3rd letter we got was the first one to mention it.

@DoReMiMom That would be great and really help out a lot and make it affordable. We have one more audition left this Friday at Sam Houston State University Hopefully it will go well. I’m ready for this to be over with

I hear you loud and clear about being ready for this part to be over. My D got her BoCo rejection this am, and I immediately had an emotional hangover from the past 6 months of audition craziness. I’ve totally lost myself in this process. Our son is 8 and on the way home from D’s states this past weekend, he declared that he too wanted to pursue MT. I ALMOST THREW UP! Break a leg to your D on her last audition! We’re almost at the finish line!!! :)

@DoReMiMom I believe redscorpion6 will be there on Monday as well. We had a fantastic time on our visit…the Inn is wonderful!!

@NAtlantaStudio How cool is that?! They told me today there was another student who would be there as well. We Cc’ers really get around. We are also staying at the Inn and I’m excited to check out the campus and facilities.

Emotional hangover! I love it and so true about this whole process. My daughter is a senior MT at ONU. I don’t get on here much anymore, but if you all have questions I will answer them to the best of my ability and experience through this whole crazy process.

@gpmom48230 Thank you for your offer of answering questions from the perspective of a mom who knows. I have a few…Would you say ONU is a suitcase school and that many or most kids go home on the weekends? Does your D feel she is well-prepared to audition for national tours and/or Broadway after her MT training at ONU? Dis your D live with another MT major freshman year? Would you advise against this? When I look at the ONU page for course options, there is no listing for math/science type classes, which my D loves. I’m curious if they only tell you once you’re there if the students must take a math, science, language class, etc?

We live in Michigan, 2 hours away from ONU. I would say that ONU is NOT a suitcase/commuter school. I don’t know any of my daughter’s friends who go home on the weekends on a regular basis. Also, so much rehearsal is on the weekends that I don’t know how they could.
My daughter is TOTALLY prepared for auditions. They do a great job of getting you out there and auditioning Freshman year. If you get any talent scholarship money the rule is (at least when we started) was that you had to audition for EVERYTHING. Dance shows, musicals and plays. Also, most of the MT students do at least one summer stock audition.
Freshman year she did not have a MT roommate. She was lucky and they got along great and are good friends. She lived in the dorm first year, second/third year in the sorority house on campus (many of the MT girls are in sororities b/c at ONU they are more philanthropic than social in my opinion and while my daughter has not been able to participate much due to so much time in rehearsals it has been a great experience for her). First two years she was with her freshman roommate, last year she was with another MT and this year she lives off campus with 4 other girls in her sorority. I can’t advise one way or another on rooming with a MT major or not. My daughter sees all her MT friends every single day and they are together constantly.
Gen Ed classes…which my daughter hates (she would have loved a conservatory but waitlisted at BW so did not happen) were a math, a science, English, language etc. MANY of the MT students are more academic than my daughter and double major quite successfully.
