Academic Warning and Internships

I’m currently a junior cs major at a local state school in Maryland. I transferred after graduating from community college last summer. My first semester at a four year school didn’t exactly go as planned, I missed quite a bit of time from class due to documented illness and thus my grades were low. I currently have a GPA of 1.89 and am on academic warning. I’m also retaking a class last semester that I received a D in. I’ve been extremely proactive and have been searching/applying for internships for this summer. I’ve had a couple phone interviews and also have an in person interview next month for IT.

My question is with my GPA currently being so low and being on academic warning, what are the chances that I’ll get an internship this summer? How do I answer questions about my gpa/academic warning with potential recruiters if transcripts are required? Any advice surely appreciated thanks…

You will have to tell the truth if/when asked about your GPA. I hired someone who had very low GPA because he gave me very plausible reason, and I did check up on his reason. I told him he was on probation, one mess up and he was out. He turned out to be a great hire for me.
I will say it is very likely they will ask for your transcript.

thanks for your response, I am going to tell the truth during the interviews and would be really glad if they did offer me a chance even with the low gpa and my reason is very much so documented by plenty of doctors so them checking up on it wouldn’t be an issue

Many employers have tougher GPA requirements for interns than for regular hires. My company would only hire interns after their junior year and you needed a GPA of 3.5 or above. Not all are that high but do your best to get that GPA up.

Colleges don’t care about documented illnesses. They care if you learned the material or not.

Why didn’t you withdraw from one or more classes?
Why didn’t you perhaps take an incomplete (if it was toward the end)?
Did you talk to disability services about accomodations (extra time)?

I don’t think the question is "what do i say"vs “will I get offered interviews at all based on my GPA”
