Our D is looking for one more school to add to the list - preferably one that is academically competitive/intellectual environment (or possibly an honors college) and has a marching band program. East of the Mississippi and not too far south. Two examples of this so far are Northwestern and UVA. Any other suggestions? TIA
Vanderbilt.
More of a safety, James Madison University in Virginia. Also Virginia Tech.
Notre Dame
Michigan
These are helpful. Thank you. Notre Dame is a possibility, though we’d have to ask how closely tied the education is to the church. She doesn’t want to go as far south as Vanderbilt, and might want to go smaller than Michigan. If that helps narrow the field, open to more suggestions. Thanks again.
Miami University in Oxford, Ohio – one of the original “public Ivies”.
Northwestern. Smaller than MI, academically rigorous.
Notre Dame and U Michigan were my first thoughts as well.
I think Lehigh has a marching band.(although it may be more low key).
Purdue!
Ohio State
University of Delaware
What is the current list?
D has several non MB schools, but the ones with MB include Syracuse, Northwestern, UVA and Case Western actually has a small MB.
Boston University.
The Catholic presence at Notre Dame is strong as it should be but Catholicism is not a required part of the curriculum.
Purdue and OSU are not smaller than Michigan, at least for undergrad. Does your D have a likely major or area of interest?
UMASS Amherst. James Madison. Both have honors programs.
Physics/Math is primary area of interest.
Boston College (if OK with a Jesuit school)
Cornell: http://mb.bigredbands.org/
Williams has excellent academics, including excellent math and physics and a wonderful marching band. Who wouldn’t love the Moocho Macho Moocow Military Marching Band?
