Academy of Art University

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this school. Specifically the reason why they accept 100% of applicants (according to collegeboard.com). Also if anyone knew about their fine arts program. Their catalog says it's mostly just sculpture. I'm a studio art major and from the looks of it I'd be better off in their Illustration program.

I've heard mostly very, very bad things about it, that it is very un-professional and extremely profit oriented (hence the 100% acceptance rate). If you live in the Bay Area, you might have seen some of their TV commercials made by students - they are plain horrible, so amateurish it makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time. I know two people enrolled there, neither feels the school met their expectations, at all.

That being said, the best thing you can do is visit the school and look around for yourself if this would be something that could fit you.

Academy of Art University is a for-profit college...

From everything I could find on it, this seemed to be one of those schools that's the equivilant of ITT Tech for artists. Try to find something better, but if you do end up there, remember that any competition you're facing in your classes is low-grade compared to what's out there in the professional world, and work extra hard to go beyond what you see around you.

From what pre-college classes I've taken there, it seems to me that AAU, though it will teach you a technique or material or whatever if you want to learn it, does virtually nothing to nurture its students creatively.
