I’m a high school student thinking about applying to accelerated dental programs next year. I did some research and was looking into the profiles of accepted students (released by the school admissions office), and it said that most students have had around 200 hours of “healthcare-related experience.”
I’m writing here because I’m kind of confused about what “healthcare-related experience” includes, and I was wondering if biology/chemistry related extracurricular activities can considered as healthcare related experience. (Even though these are science related, topics relating to health/medicine usually comes up (like antibiotics, cardiovascular system, etc.)
Typically health-care related experience means either work or volunteering at a doctor’s office, hospital, vet. or as an EMT.
What they want to see is some evidence that you’ve tangibly been working with the public in a health care environment and are motivated to continue.
Additionally, if you can show through your essays that you understand what it means to be a dentist, then coupled with high grades and scores, you’ve got a good chance.
