accelerated med programs

hey guys,
does anyone know about those accelerated med programs where you don't have to do pre-med and you finish med school in 7 years? i think northwestern and boston university have it. i was wondering how hard it was to get into those..as hard as getting into an ivy?

Harder to get in then ivies. Also U HAVE TO DO PREMED COURSES TO GET INTO MED SCHOOL. This has been covered. There is no premed major. It is a group of courses, without those courses you arent going to any med school. They are Bio, Chem, Orgo, and Physics. That is pre-med.

hi
i've been looking into combined programs too. there's an entire forum, though kinda old, on this site under Professional & Graduate School, Pre-Med & Medical, then Multiple Degree Programs that has a lot of people's input.
basically, i read through them and realized just how incredibly hard they are to get in. ya, they probably are harder to get into than ivies, but for those people that have wanted to be a doctor since birth with gpa's to match, it's an incredible opportunity.
but i think i've just realized that those kinda programs would slaughter me and spit me back out...

Washington's University has an 8 year program which allows students to enter medical school after their undergraduate years provided that they maintain a 3.7 gpa and score a 36 on the MCAT. This program is extremely challenging to get in to and the requirements to keep your position are extremely tough.

Washington University's*

You sure its a 36 on the MCAT? Because that it so rediculously high. If its a combined program they usually woulnd't make it nearly that high.

Check the average on most websites....including the magazine US News and World Report Best Graduate School rankings....For a while, Wash U med school has had an average of 36.6 (12.2 per section)---which is the highest in the country....I am also an undergraduate at wash u and have confirmed this with many contacts within the university and med school

actually, the requirements have moved up---now it is a 3.8 gpa and 36 mcat

wow, thats not fun.

usc's 8 year prog is 3.3 and 9's on each section of the mcat.
