My daughter will graduate high school in June and has been accepted into DeSales, Kings, Seton Hall, MCPHS, and Saint Francis acelerated 3+2/3+3 PA programs. She is waiting to hear from RIT, U of Sciences and Jefferson (her #1 pick at this point). Any suggestions on which programs are better? She has received merit from all but some more than others. It’s been really hard for her to decide- she thinks some maybe more academic than others.
Congrats to your daughter!
Such an accomplishment.
To figure out which represent a good fit, have her contact the admission folks at each of the schools she’s been admitted to, and ask them if they can supply her with the names/phone numbers of any current students in the program(s) who she can communicate with.
They are typically happy to help, as this could sway her toward their school.
She should have some standard questions that she asks each student.
In addition to the academic and workload questions, she should ask some about the opportunity for socializing, if any, as well as the types of students that are currently in the program.
Of course, if you can do visits to the campus(s) and see the program(s) in action - balanced with the overall costs of the programs - that is the best ways to determine which might be the best fit.
Good luck to her on her outstanding schools.
Of note is to compare the requirements to stay in the PA program for each school. What’s the minimum GPA? The course sequence? How do they expect her to get her patient contact hours in? Is she accepted only with a boost in PA admissions, does she have to take GRE and apply with outside students for the graduate spot? Hopefully she selects a program that has automatic admission to the graduate courses with only maintaining a reasonable GPA and patient contact hours. Plus cost for each school should come into play. If she was awarded aid/money will it continue all through the program or will tuition increase dramatically in grad school? Congratulations on your daughter having so many options to compare!
Congratulations! My son was also accepted to a # of the schools too. We just heard from Jefferson (accepted) and waiting on RIT interview. We are also looking for more info on each & trying not to look at the ranking by US News. We will probably request to contact some current students as suggested by Hop.
Yes she got into Jefferson too yet they only give 3 years scholarship versus more from the others. Waiting to hear from RIT still … thanks for your comments. Yes I think it helps to talk to current students there…
Thanks for your input!
Can you please tell us which school she decided to go to and why? It will be highly appreciated by many others!
