Accelerated pre-med program.

I've heard a lot about PSU's accelerated pre-med, but I can't find a lot on the Internet about it. Can anyone provide me with some info/insight?

Also, can you get into Schreyer and still be involved in the accelerated pre-med program??

I'm a junior in high school and just looking to see how you can combine these programs. They happen to be the two I'm interested in.

I found this link. Admissions standards are tougher than Schreyer. I think they're separate programs but I'm not sure. Call Schreyer to find out.

It looks like Schreyer has their own programs for those who wish to pursue advanced degrees. From my read, it looks like you have to be admitted to Schreyer first and then apply to these in your 2nd year. From their web site at: http://www.scholars.psu.edu/currentstudents/IUG/index.html

"Undergraduate/Graduate Study Programs
The Schreyer Honors College offers two programs through which students can pursue their Undergraduate degree as well as a higher degree at the same time. The choose the appropriate link below for the program you are interested in.

Intergrated Undergraduate/Graduate (IUG) Program: For students who wish to obtain their Bachelor's degree and Master's degree simultaneously.

Integrated Undergraduate/Medical Doctorate (IUMD) Program: For students who wish to pursue their Bachelor's degree and Medical Doctorate simultaneously."

Go to the "Multiple Degree Programs" section of this forum. There is tons of information on this program there.

My brother did the "5-year MD Program" years ago and graduated from Jefferson Med College at 22. He was truly dedicated, but it was a pressure cooker. In addition, the students were very young and socially awkward. Not much time for dates, etc.once the Penn State requirements were finished. I believe he was only allowed 1 or 2 electives along the way. Consider this carefully.

It is now a 6/7 year program however, so you have the option of spending three years at PSU (7 year option) for a more traditional college experience.
