^^ Oh goody.

Holy crap . . . 21% acceptance rate . . .
CAS will probably be around . . 16-17%? :(

possibly even lower; CAS was around that even when the acceptance rate was at 26%, and im assuming most of the new applicants applied to that school

It's because of the shift to the common app right? Of course there is an increase in qualified applicants applying . . . but most of the new applications have to be from people using the common app and thinking "oh, what the heck" and submitting to Cornell too.

thats absolutely nuts. 8000 in 2 years? holy ****

canadaeh^^ that's what I did to Yale! hehe

good thing a kid from my school HAS to go to cornell every year and im the only male to apply to CAS

"HAS" to go?
Thats crazy.

Also, more applicants/lower rate does not mean good applicants/hard to get accepted.

There can't be an increase of 8000 qualified applicants over a 2 year span, right? :s

not all of the 8000 are quality applicants, like it was said before the common app has made it easier for more people to apply but thats the full reason why there was an increase in apps. someone said before more peps are graduating hs and applying to college. but Cornell must have done some a considerable amount of pitching and recuirting to future applicants. they sure got me lol.

The website says they are accepting about 5900, which is about 700 fewer than last year. The numbers they accept fluctuate a lot, however, from year to year, so I don't know if it is a good indicator of any trend.

I think the 5900 may be RD admits only . . . + the 1000 kids they accepted ED is about 7000 acceptances?

nvm i'm probably wrong . . . dang 700 fewer acceptances and a lower acceptance rate . . . with CAS being like 14% or so probably
I'm out . . .

They probably accepted fewer because they're expecting a higher yield.

u guys are drivven tooooooooo much by numbers!!!

anyways...just bec a college's got a lower acc rate, it NO WAY means its bad...
at a university like cornell...most of the applicantpool tends to be self selective anyways...unlike at Harvard where every Tom, Dick and Harry applies...

thats based on your speculation

in my school, about 50 kids apply to cornell , while maybe 2 or 3 apply to harvard

ppl are, if not smart enough to get into harvard, smart enough to realize that they're just throwin away the application fee at an over-rated undergraduate school of undergraduate education. if you want to go to harvard, go to one of its graduate schools.

verybored hit it on the spot. as i said in some other post, anywhere in the top 20 universities (top 10 for sure) will look pretty much the same applying to grad school or trying to find a job, with small differences depending on the strength of the college on that particular subject area.

well, isn't .21 X 28000 about 5900

I think it is 5900 TOTAL, so if there are 1000 ED, then it should be 4900. I have no idea if 1000 ED is correct though.

but if you like harvard for reasons other than it being prestigious, why not go? i know its the cornell board, but everyone does not agree that cornell is the greatest college in the world and the best deal and the best academics etc.

"if you want to go to harvard, go to one of its graduate schools"... if you want to go to harvard, pay the application fee and apply.

OK, so here is some more data for those wondering about the change in admit rate. Last year, there were a total of 6621 acceptances. This year, 5900. Doesn't that seem like a big drop in acceptances (and not just number of applicants)?! Cornell is either planning on a much larger yield rate, or they are expecting to take a bunch of kids off of the waiting-list. It'll be interesting to see how this all turns out.
