Acceptance rate?

Princeton Reviews stats are old and outdated. Those stats are probably from 2-3 years ago. (Take a look at some other colleges to confirm this)

Hmmmm, if you look at BU's Common Data Set for the class that entered BU in 2004, they pretty much match up with the Princeton Review stats:

SATs (Middle 50 percentile)
Verbal: 580-680
Math: 600-690
GPA: 3.49

<a href="http://www.bu.edu/oep/cds.html#section-c%5B/url%5D">http://www.bu.edu/oep/cds.html#section-c</a></p>

this is from the BU website::
Rank in High School Class (percentages)

* Class of 2010
Top 10% — 67%
Top 15% — 82%
Top 25% — 95%

 • Average Rank in Class Boston University Four-Year Colleges — 91.2% Boston University College of General Studies — 77.8%

Standardized Tests SAT
(CR/MT) SAT
(WR) ACT
Boston University Four-Year Colleges (average) 1333 660 29
Boston University College of General Studies (average) 1179 597 25

Boston University Four-Year Colleges (Middle 50%) 1260-1400 610-710 27-31
Boston University College of General Studies (Middle 50%) 1120-1230 560-630 24-27

Valedictorians: 550

Salutatorians: 266
also according to the website, 31,827 people applied and 4200 was accepted

well BU told me that the average SAT is 1250 and the average gpa is 3.5. pretty close to what the princeton review said.

the class of 2010 average SAT was a 1333

"the class of 2010 average SAT was a 1333"

But that does not include CGS or International Students. These are BU students right? The average is obviously lower.

"also according to the website, 31,827 people applied and 4200 was accepted"

I think what you meant to say is that 4200 enrolled (not accepted). The admit rate for BU is above 50%. You do the math.

Total applicants: 31,431
Applicants offered Admission: 17,810
Applicants who enrolled: 4209

<a href="http://www.bu.edu/oep/cds.html#section-c%5B/url%5D">http://www.bu.edu/oep/cds.html#section-c</a></p>

ah.................

Max,
We are just not sure why you are clearly affiliated with Northeastern and go on dozens of boards pulling out anything you can to reflect one way or another on that school while favorable for NE. Its just a weird phenomenon to see posters that do this and its important that viewers know this is evidenced by your post profile. Surely the BU web site is accurate and why would it matter to a Comm. or Accelerated MD sudent what the stats are for CGS just as kids at Penn State main campus don't need to compare themselves with studenst at Penn State's remote campuses that draw a much lower statistical student profile.
What is your goal in doing this on so many different school's boards since most people only post on the school they are affiliated with or plan to attend or are considering?

Very, very few schools include students for whom English is a second language and that is clearly stated on the BU site's stats for class of 2010 (link above). Obviously a test like an SAT that depends on US centric type of knowlege is not the best determination of an international student's abilities any more that US kids that are being considered for study in Asia. BU, like many colleges, gains a lot from having a strong international student body.

yeah seriously Maximus....dogs has a very valid point.....time to grow up a lil bit big guy...this forum is really for students attending BU/ going to attend BU/ or are interested in attending BU.....just keep that in mind

Looks like it went up last year since the current BU web site link above, class of 2010, has 1410 as the top of the middle range as compared to 1400 as stated by the poster so perhaps that was for the class of 2009. Like all schools, stats keep going up because of the population boom occurring now and for the next few years. These numbers have some general importance since they give you an idea as to the difficulty or ease of the class work but I stick to my position that the biggest factor is "fit" and that seems to have more to do with social life and location than if the student average is 50 points above or below wherever you are on that continuum.

Dogs,

Relax, I am not bashing BU; rather I am simply pointing out that the school is not quite as selective as you make it out to be. But overall BU is a very good school. It would certainly be ranked much higher if it dropped CGS. But unfortunately, that's not likely to happen anytime soon.

Here it is again with the breakdown fron the CURRENT BU web site stats for students actually attending, not just accepted, from the class of 2010 profile on the undeergra admisisions site. Note that some schools only show accepted sudents not those that actually enroll which of course would be lower.

Dogs,

What percentage of BU's entering class are CGS students?

hey dogs!
its seems kinda random question. but. uhm. is admission office open on monday?someone told me due to marathon, classes are canceled for monday.

It's a state holiday (Patriot's Day) in MA on Monday; not many places will be open. :)

how hard is it to get into com? just wondering if anyone knows any stats

just because BU has a 50% acceptance rate doesn't make it a "less competitive" school. While they do accept a large number of applicants, so many students use it as a safety to the Ivies, plus with almost 4,200 freshman undergrads, you need a rather large yield rate. BU isn't as "easy" as you all say. Grade deflation is high, making it much more competitive and harder to achieve A's.

BU gets so many apps every year, but its ranked 60th? Im not saying anything im just suprised. Im attending BU this fall!
