Forgive me if this has already been discussed -- I'm new to this site.

I'm trying to get a better understanding of acceptance rates -- I'm wondering if the rates are different (higher? lower?) for boarding vs. day, or for requesting/not requesting financial aid? Is that information that admissions folks are usually willing to share?

It really depends on the school. For example Milton Academy is strengthening their boarding program. A few years back when they were increasing the number of boarders it was more difficult to get in as a day student.
Lawrenceville could probably fill all of their classes with day students so it is harder to get in as a day student with the limited space. When my daughter interviewed there, they spoke to us about wanting to maintain geographic diversity - not encouraging for a family from NJ!

Elite prep schools that have both boarding & day students typically have a much higher yield of admitted day students, thus they accept fewer day students per available slot. This is true for Phillips Academy at Andover as well as for Phillips Exeter Academy.

the TSAO schools have much lower acceptance rates than most boarding schools. but there are other great schools that have much higher acceptance rates. you just have to look around
