Do day students have better chances of admission

Is applying as a day beneficial because you need less financial aid, and the spots for day students are not as competitive?

It’s my understanding that day student positions are usually more competitive.

Any idea why?

Less spots, more folks willing to consider a day school option vs. giving up their child to boarding, cheaper tuition, people in the area who are close enough to be day students typically know and value the the quality of education the schools provide.

I stand corrected. Sorry for misinformation. Ariana3, thanks for posting the stats.

It depends on the school. Some schools take no day students, others are known for many. For some, the day applicants have an easier time. The Andover data in the post above is accurate, day students have an easier time there. I don’t know about all schools, though. It would be worth asking the admissions offices if it is a concern.

Say Exeter maybe?
