It is almost time for ED / EA applicants to check their mailboxes!

Are acceptance letters generally large envelopes?
And are rejection letters generally small envelopes?
For acceptance letters, do some schools send a small envelope followed by a large envelope?
Do some schools have a "unique" package that they send their admitted students?

I want to know what I should be expecting.
I just know I am going to be rejected. :/

It all really depends. Some schools send out acceptance letters just the acceptance letter in a small envelope and then you have to go online to confirm that you’re going there before they send you anything further.

Some schools send out large packets, some even put ‘Welcome to School X’ on the outside so you really don’t have any guessing games.

Last year my daughter experienced the full range - some schools no envelopes at all - found out online/email that she was accepted or rejected. Some schools accepted with small envelopes, some rejected with small envelopes. Some accepted with large envelopes and in one case - Penn State - she was rejected with a large envelope! (She had only applied to University Park. The letter rejected her to UP but included info on branch campuses)

My two acceptances from rolling admissions schools were different - one was actually a phone call followed by a normal-sized letter, and the other was online folled by a normal sized letter for the honors program.

When you open your mailbox and find a letter inside, big or small, don’t jump to conclusions. Big mistake on my part, and it almost ruined my entire day. I fit right into the school’s profile, and it was a school I fell in love with. Everything seemed to be a perfect match and then a small envelope showed up in my mailbox and I almost lost it. Fortunately it was an acceptance letter. Long story short, big things can come in small packages.

My daughter has received two acceptances so far - one was a thin envelope the other thick.

She received scholarships from both schools. Thin envelope school sent the scholarship info later in another envelope. Thick envelope school sent it with the acceptance.

My D has received three acceptances so far.
One was a huge thick envelope which included a t shirt and scholarship info (what a fun first acceptance), the second was in a large, thin, white envelope without any monies info and the third was a big cardboard envelope with “Congratulations” splashed across it. I know she is dreading the small, thin, white envelope. I will tell her that good things come in small packages.

I applied to a school of rolling admission. I really wonder, if they accept someone else other than me, will they send me my rejection letter at the same time as they send acceptance letter to those who get admitted? Or will they just email those who get admitted first?

I’ve received decisions back from three out of my four rolling schools so far. All three were acceptances, and with decent scholarship information. The first (Hartwick) came on the day after Christmas, which was awesome. It was a small, but somewhat thick envelope, due to a brochure on their 3-year degree program that was enclosed. Two weeks later, they sent me a hefty scholarship. The second was Goucher, which came half a month earlier than expected. It was a large cardboard envelope, and contained tons of information on housing/financial aid/accepted student’s day, and included a nice scholarship. Their letter was hand-signed, too. Third was AIB, which came the day after Goucher. Their envelope said CONGRATULATIONS! on the front, so no surprises there. Again, a decent scholarship was enclosed, along with housing/meal plans/insurance/etc.

Currently I’m waiting for SUNY Purchase. Hopefully their notification is nice as well! =)
