Acceptance...

Hey everyone,

I just received my acceptance in the mail today. It came a lot earlier than I had expected it to. Does anyone have any idea when you get honors notification?

Congrats. I have no idea about honors. I'm likely transferring in for January.

Out of curiosity, when did you send in your app? I sent mine last week and I'm curious about how long it will take.

i sent mine in the middle of october. i got the notification in less than a month. you may have to wait longer because there are probably more applying during this time than when i did.

Well, I'm officially in for January. I was there on Monday and was very impressed with everything. I'm excited. Go Owls!

Wow....I got a response back a lot quicker than I had expected. Just heard yesterday that I got in with a 5000$/yr scholarship. YAY ME! I'm really excited.

Congrats. Are you attending?

Most likely. I'm about 90% sure it's where I want to go, but I'm holding off for just a little so I'm sure that it's not just excitement about getting accepted. I'll probably make an official decision sometime next week.

Where else did you apply?

I applied to University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and I'll hear from them in two weeks. But I still think that regardless of their decision, I'll still go to Temple.

Wow...UIUC is a helluva school, but the location sucks. That's tight that youd turn down such a well regarded school (not that Temple isnt, but not as much as UIUC, but who cares). I guess UConn didnt appeal to you haha.

just found out today i got accepted applied like november 20

^^^Congrats, are you attending?

i dont know yet depends on how much financial aid they give me

B05TON -- My choice of school has to do has to do with the specific programs that I'm looking at. I want to double major in Metals/Jewelry and Japanese, so I had to look at everything from that perspective. UIUC had a good art school, with a really good Jewelry program, but Tyler School of Art at Temple is very highly regarded for their Jewelry program and is one of the forerunners in education and research for new processes such as CAD/CAM. UIUC focuses more on preparation for the art world, but Temple places an equal emphasis on technique as well as design, preparing it's students for a job in industry, or the art jewelry world. I know a lot of people who applied to art schools such as RISD and MICA who also applied to Temple because of Tyler's reputation. The Japanese program, however, is better at UIUC. While Temple has Japanese (available as a concentration under "Asian Studies") and they use what I have found to be one of the best textbooks out there for study, UIUC has many opportunities to experience Japanese culture on campus, with classes such as "Japanese Tea Ceremony" and "Japanese Aesthetics" complete with a Zen garden on campus to supplement the curriculum. Still, Temple has a campus in Tokyo with a good opportunity for study abroad, so that balances things out. In the end, I had to weigh the options and decide which worked best for me in the long run. Since Metals/Jewelry is what I really want to go into, and the Japanese is more of a personal thing because I love the culture and the language, I had to choose the school that will prepare me best for whatever carreer I choose in that field. I know that UIUC is an amazing school, but when looking at the two schools in the context of my future plans, Temple clearly won out.

And no, I didn't look at any schools in CT. ^_^ It's not that I hate it...I just don't like it. I've only lived here for a few years and most of the time it still doesn't feel like I fit here.

Yeah, it just occurred to me that you were looking at Tyler. From what I've heard, the Asian Studies at Temple is pretty good. Also, TUJ is an absolutely unbelievable place and an awesome opportunity. I might look at Japan for study abroad for business.
