From reading around on CC, I've notice that a lot of people get accepted or waitlisted at Harvard but then rejected from Princeton. Is Princeton more picky?

Well, statistically, Princeton is less picky (9.8% admit rate versus Harvard’s 7%). And personally, more of my friends were accepted by Princeton and rejected/waitlisted by Harvard (go figure!).

Supposedly Princeton are a little bit paranoid when it comes to Harvard and Yale.
It’s less famous, (desirable) etc. and so often rejects people that it thinks will get in to H/Y

I’d like to see your evidence on this, which I’m willing to bet is nonexistent.

@141113, I disagree. The trend I’ve noticed is that if you get into one Ivy League, you have a good shot at getting into others. This is not based on one college’s view of another, this is simply based on the fact that if you are qualified and well-rounded enough to get into Harvard, for example, then you are just as qualified to get into Princeton.

My personal opinion about this year’s Princeton acceptances, however, is that Princeton tended to reject many of the applicants who scored 2400s in favor of the kids who had pretty good, but not perfect, SAT scores but more interesting and balanced, yet rigorous, backgrounds. Harvard and Yale may have been more interested in perfect SAT scores this year. IMO.

Princeton has been trying to expand its undergraduate enrollment to about 5200 students, which would explain why the acceptance rate went up slightly this year.

I had a 2400, and I got into Princeton, but not Harvard or Yale. So I think fundamentally we’re wasting our time looking for trends… there’s a point at which there’s no meaningful way to distinguish between applicants, and you’re basically playing blindfolded darts to decide.

Yeah it does seem random. I think the particular pool of people on CC that I happened to come across were for some reason the opposite of Elmorell.

Yes it is so useless to look for trends! my theory is that the 3 of them secretly meet together and randomly decides which cross-applicant gets in where.

@141113, I agree. Saccolicious, get ■■■■■■■.
