Acceptances 2016

My daughter was accepted two weeks ago and a week later received a letter of guaranteed freshman spot in MOT
program (pending undergrad grades).
If she hasn’t received an Honors
College letter, does that mean she did not get in to the Honors program or is not being considered?
Thank you!!

@etram2012, It does not necessarily mean she is not honors eligible. The University Honors College wrote up a really great description of who is eligible to enroll in honors courses, which I am quoting here:

"Incoming freshmen with SAT combined math and critical reading scores of 1400 or above (or a 32 ACT math and English subscores average) and who are in the top 5 percent of their high school class are automatically eligible to enroll in University Honors College (UHC) courses. Additionally, some introductory courses in the sciences and math also may require a minimum score on a placement test; check with your advisor for specific information on this.

Freshmen students who do not meet SAT or GPA requirements may nonetheless be given permission to enroll in a UHC course by a UHC advisor or by the course instructor. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. If you want to take a UHC course, the best thing to do is ask your advisor.

Students who have been at the University for more than two terms qualify to take UHC courses if they have a 3.25 grade point average (GPA), a B+ average."

You can always find more info on http://www.honorscollege.pitt.edu/.

If your daughter does in fact meet these eligibility requirements, I would encourage you to send us an email and double check on the letter: oafa@pitt.edu. Make sure to include the full name and DOB of the applicant so we can locate them in our system.

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for your reply!
Just to confirm-she was not formally accepted to the Honor’s College (no notification on her acceptance letters) but may be eligible for honor’s courses.
Thanks again!

There is no formal acceptance or membership for Pitt’s University Honors College. It is very open to those who would like to participate. If students are eligible to enroll in honors courses, they are automatically able to do so. Students who are not automatically eligible can talk to an advisor about getting access to honors courses.

Hope that helps!

Got it!! Thanks so much for clarifying. I was confused, as some participants on this forum spoke of their “acceptance” letters to the honor’s college. I understand now-thank you and I will pass the information along to her:))

I am happy to help!
