Acceptances and deadlines

Hi everyone! Like everyone else, we're still waiting to hear from schools. My daughter was accepted to Utah, and they are asking for a decision this week. There are a few schools she's very anxious to hear from before making her final decision. The more she learns about Utah, the more she likes it, and we think it would be a great fit for her and that she'd have a great experience. But, I'm just curious to know if there are any others who have heard from these schools: Univ. of Miami, Webster, and JMU. These are her top selections along with Utah...just really liked the people who run these particular programs. Also, many schools ask for a housing deposit by April 1st. I'm curious to know how others out there handle this since it seems like some programs send decisions after that date. Just feeling a bit anxious and appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

I think the housing deposit at Utah is refundable if you notify them by May 1 so it gives you time to hear from the other schools. I strongly suggest you register for housing at Utah right away if it is still in consideration. Housing is not guaranteed for freshman and since they have rolling admissions, housing goes pretty quickly. You can try to get the department to allow an extension to respond. Where are you from? Do you know that Utah has a very lenient residency requirement? My D will be a resident starting her Sophomore year, saving LOTS of money!

Thanks so much! We are out of state, so that is one of the very appealing aspects of Utah. Two alumni from my d’s high school have taken advantage of that - so great!

Utah will actually be less expensive than our state school for Sophomore-Senior years. Many students stay in Salt Lake City for the summer between Freshman and Sophomore years to make it happen, so our D will most definitely not be alone. And summer classes are always at the in-state tuition rate.
