ag54 - I'm so jealous of that. One application, gets in, is happy. Nice. Congratulations!

Heck Ag, you're taking all the fun out of things! Many congrats, and as I mentioned earlier you have GOT to change your screen name now!

What a great feeling, ag54, and congrats to your S on his success!

I really should change my screen name (even though it has nothing to do with "ahem" that other school ;) ) but then I would lose all my posts!! I'm slowly trying to work my way up to senior member!!

darling d accepted at Michigan State. Waiting to hear from honors program. Also waiting to hear from University of Michigan. According to the profile stats no one has heard from U or M yet. Anyone have a child in university marching band? One of daughter's dreams is to play in the "big house." Mom a little concerned about the rigors of the program and the time commitment.
Anybody with input, be glad to h ear from you.

Just posted on the master list - my d got her rolling acceptance to UVM. Much dancing and rejoicing (think sing-song): "I'm going to college; I'm going to college!"

We next move on to the rest of the RD applications. But it's much less tense now!

All these rollings and all to such great schools! Seems like the R&R phase (seasoned with just a sprinkling of more apps to complete ;) ) just begins earlier and earlier for some families. Congrats to all.

Wow, CeCe -- kicking some serious butt, congrats. Are you finished, or are some apps still out?

If you were talking to me, yes. I am too embarrassed to tell you how many schools my dd applied to. The reason is this. My d had her list. Then one of the counselors at her school told her that her gpa was MUCH lower than she had thought. So, the list grew out of nervousness. Then, her gc at school said that the info she was given was wrong. There is a big difference between an unweighted 3.1 and an unweighted 3.6. (She has had 8 honors courses and 3 APs) So, depending on how colleges weight the honors and aps, it would be higher. So, where it is great that she is getting (I love the rolling admissions!) alot of acceptances (5 for 5 so far), she is also going to be very confused as to where to go. She is off to Quinnipiac today, and then Wheaton (MA) on Monday.

I started a new thread on where and why our kids would probably want to go based on where they have been accepted so far. Question I would like to get thoughts on is this: If schools are not "ivy" would you or your kids opt to go to a school which gives them money or pay the 30's to 50's k per year to go to a better known school. Any thoughts on that post them. I for one have that as a "new" dilema in my mind.

Hey, confusion beats the alternative (i.e. NO place to go) hands down.

The wait is over and we're so happy. Darling D accepted in Honors College and offered a professorial assistantship at Michigan State University.

Also learned today she was accepted at University of Michigan. Don't have many details yet as we saw it on wolverine access but have not received the mailing.

mamac, congrats to you and your daughter! The assistantship at MSU sounds like a wonderful opportunity. Do you know when your D's application to UM was complete? My D is on tenderhooks waiting to hear from them! So happy for your fantastic outcome!

DS got admitted to Texas Tech University. "Hey, Momma!" he said, "I'm going to college!" (He's an automatic-admit since top ten percent, and there are no essays required for this application..... It's no wonder that he got this application in early!) Now only 4 more applications, and a zillion short answers and essays for him to complete!

A CA state U just accepted my sorta-stepson. I was surprised they replied so quickly.

entomom, LOTS of kids at my d's high school found out last week that they got into U of M. I know someone at another high school who hasn't heard yet. Not sure if everyone at d's school applied earlier than the one who hasn't heard (he sent app in 10/5). Best of luck!

Thanks for the info kelsmom! My D got everything in by the end of Sept except the GC rec -- he didn't get it done until mid-Oct which has likely held everything up.

anxiousmom, is your s considering tech? My s has a bunch of friends from school who are planning on attending.

Congrats to all who are hearing early. It sure is nice to know they are going somewhere to college!!

Hey ag54, DS is considering all options - He's applying to TTU, Trinity, Rice, UT, and A&M - and we'll have to see how the acceptances and financial aid work out. We did like the Honors college and the very friendly engineering department at Tech, though not so much, the town of Lubbock!!!!! Also, DS is fairly liberal - and not sure of the fit at A&M or Tech. Any feedback you have about TEch would be welcomed!!! :)

My mom's son just got into UT-Austin, OOS no less!

anxiousmom, I think what you are saying is what all people think about Tech, it is a great school with a neat feel, but Lubbock-meh :( I do know of a number of fun guys who are probably heading there. I'm not sure about how liberal it is. From what I understand, it has really started getting a bunch of Houston and Dallas kids due to the 10% rule, so should be more diverse than many years ago. I know A&M has gotten more diverse, but is still considered very conservative. Trinity and Rice are both great schools with great kids, I know a few at both and they all love where they are. I know from one of my friends that Rice is generous with financial aid, they were surprised at the package they got. I know that Trinity is generous with merit aid, I've heard that most kids get the $11000 award. Don't know about financial aid beyond that though.

Good luck with your decision!!!

Congrats airbear! :) The kid must have great stats to be oos and have heard already!! My s will be a freshman at UT next year too! Where is your student planning on living?
