Acceptances: Celebrate, discuss, support here

Congratulations to all who have those wonderful acceptances! And to those whose ED did not go the way they hoped, it truly does work out in the end. I have one of each and it's hard to say who is happier today. (They're both thrilled where they are.) One door closes and another door opens.

twinmom has summed it all up pretty well.

ditto

S was accepted to Lewis & Clark yesterday EA. We weren't expecting to hear until mid-January. This is one of his safer schools, but he really likes it and we were all thrilled to know he's IN!! It really lends a shine to a school to be the one that relieves this stress.

My twin sons were just accepted ED to Duke. I cannot begin to express the pride, joy and relief that this process is over.

If we could squeeze this thread hard, I imagine pure pride would just drip on out. Congrats.

S was accepted EA to Georgetown SFS yesterday, and my oh my what a surprise after several whirlwind months of screwups from crazy absent interviewer (almost needed to buy a GPS to track him down and never did get the mandatory interview) to lost SAT scores, LOL. S says the GU application process was so much work that he's thinking of adding it as an EC on his other apps!
Congratulations to all those fabulous early acceptances!

proudinnj,

Welcome to CC and the parents forum. A double congratulations to you (talk about 2 brids with one stone) great news. Congrats MC on your son's acceptance to Georgetown. Looks like SA is going to get crowed and there will be a lot of free drinks flowing:D

Proudinnj - From one twin mom to another - double congrats! (And I am sooooo impressed that your sons want to go to school TOGETHER!)

Well I am happy to say that my kid was offered a place in Boston. Thanks for your wisdom and wonderful advice. Now we wait for financial aid and see it. I never imagined that my kid will have a chance as we needed a lot of aid to go there. But thank you.

Congratulations! Thanks for updating us. Best of luck with financial aid.
Happy holidays!

Newparent - Harvard's financial aid is top notch. Once your child is offered a spot, Harvard will do everything possible to ensure that she is able to attend, as long as you can provide proper documentation of your need.
Congratulations to you and your child! :)

Son was accepted at Stanford. He's very excited and not motivated to finish the CalTech application (still has to write two long essays)!

Congratulationns newparent! Good Luck with everything!

I would also like to thank all the parents who are so knowledgeable, kind, helpful and generous with their time...you have really helped make the process accessible to my family.

Newparent:

Congrats. I second Twinmom's message. I'm sure Harvard will do everything to make it possible for your D to attend. She is a great kid.

Great news, newparent!! Congrats!!!

Woo hoo for her, newparent! Have faith that the financials will work themselves out....this is the way the Horatio Alger stories work in America.

Alger went to Harvard himself.... :)

To castinneford--
Today, I found out I got into Princeton ED, and my mom cried, too! (Though a little more than a few tears; she was driving when I called her and told her and she had to pull over!). It was such an amazing feeling, that besides being so happy for myself, I could make my parents so happy.
I look forward to meeting your son next fall!

To btlesgirl...
Congratulations to you! I know how your mom was feeling with happiness combined with relief for you and not just a little bit of pride. We are driving down to Princeton tomorrow (an hour away) to do some shopping in the bookstore. We didn't buy anything on any of our college visits because we were afraid to jinx Jim....but there's nothing to jinx now!
Jim's looking forward to meeting everyone in his new class of 2011. Coming from a very small school with about 45 kids in his graduating class, he's looking forward to meeting lots of new people.

BHappyMom - Congratulations to your family as well! :)

I’d like to extend a sincere thank you to the parents on this board who have been so very helpful. The willingness of people on CC to share information has made the application process for my D much less mysterious and much more productive. She was accepted to Brown ED and I know that the knowledge I gained here strengthened her application significantly. You have provided us guidance on test taking, extracurricular involvement, essay writing, summer programs, and application completion. I hate to think of where we might be without your advice along the way.

I have learned so much about this process that I’m sorry I have only one child to use it on! I will try to help share the information you have passed on to me with future applicants (a great suggestion from Curmudgeon to someone else who was giving thanks!).

Curmudgeon also suggested the use of CC’s Stats Evaluation Service. When I started getting really nervous about my daughter’s future, I had her send in her stats. Dave Berry provided excellent feedback and predicted her success with Brown. Unfortunately, we sent it in too late to help much with ED but I’ll be recommending this to parents of juniors in the spring. He had several great suggestions that we put to use in her RD apps and his overall evaluation was quite insightful. I should note that D submitted 8 applications and had the other 3 ready to turn in if they were needed. Based on what I read here, I was determined to have her apps done prior to the ED decisions. It took a little (ok, more than a little) nagging and pushing but she did it.

I can’t believe this part is over. I am so happy for my D – a little sad that we won’t see how she would have fared with her other apps but very happy to be able to relax (except for that part about figuring out how to pay the tuition bills…). I have already started to pack up the view books and SAT review books. They are going – upon request – to the ninth grader down the road.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you and express how valuable this site was for us. I am not going to single out individuals because there are too many and I know I’ll miss some – but I hope you know who you are. I do hope to break my addiction to the site sometime in the future but, for now, I will stick around to see how everyone fares this year and help when I can.

Thanks so very much! (My D sends her thanks as well – even though she always made fun of me when I mentioned CC!)
