D heard today, she is in! The long wait is over. Now waiting to see about $$

S got accepted as well today, but with a heavy sigh...no merit aid. Much as he liked the school, we're not eligible for FA, yet can't pay the close to $200,000 that four years of full pay will cost. Son is disappointed, but I guess it's time to move on.

My son received his letter of acceptance yesterday, too.

Has anyone accessed Goucher's financial aid website for information re: financial awards? We tried but no "award tab" was visible to click on (as stated in the letter of instruction). We did see that all of our paperwork was received...wondering if it's still being processed, or if he did not receive any financial assistance (yikes!). Called the financial aid office and got a voice mail re: heavy call volume. Will call again on Mon. Just wondering if others had similar experiences.

I don't think all decisions have been made. I spoke to some one yesterday after leaving a message a few days earlier. People have until March 18 to complete all the forms.

Lyricmom - hi, my daughter emailed yesterday with the same question. She logged on and found the site but no award bar. They emailed back within 1/2 hour and told her that they do have everything and will email her again when the award is in her file and then the tabs will all be working. So its a wait and see.

The only way she is going to be able to go is if they can match or come close to her other schools. We'll have two in college and its going to be about the $$.

Cpeltz, left you a PM,

Congrats to all!

Same thing happened do our D, only she received her acceptance a couple of months ago. She was thrilled, but then disappointed to see no merit aid offered. So far, G is the only school to accept her and not offer merit. I heard from a G parent who told me that interviews are strongly recc'd for candidates who want to be considered for merit. That wasn't stressed on our campus visit last spring. Lesson learned, I guess.

D has moved on. I'm hoping we'll get a financial aid offer, but I doubt it will be enough to make G a realistic choice for her. In fact, she's off visiting another school this weekend and just called to tell me she's ready to enroll. :) Fortunately they offered her a generous merit award. She's more resilient than I am -- this school is so far away, while G is closer. I went ahead and sent in all our paperwork and made the best case I can for financial aid. We shall see.

Longeyemom and mom1213 - hi, and thanks for the information...glad to know Goucher is still working on the financial awards...I won't despair just yet. I'll call again or email them on Monday and share any response.

My son is the oldest and, therefore, the first to go off to college. My daughter is a h.s. junior and will be college-bound the following year. Then it will be two in college for us, as well, so the $$ help will be really important for us, too.

Anyone planning to go to accepted students day?

Hi lyricmom, I have them a year apart also. A freshman D in college and my senior in HS D. we are planning to attend on the 6th. I just booked a room at the Sheraton Balt. North. Its the one right next door, with the skywalk to the mall. She really wants to see it again and ask some more questions of the education and art depts. Worse case is that the FA is really really bad and its way out of reach, we can cancel the hotel. Just thought we would reserve to make sure we were able to get a room close by. Our older daughter is in baltimore as well, so we will stop in and visit her.

My D rec'd the agenda for the accepted student day in an email from the coach. (He was planning a sleep-over, for the prospective team members). The accepted student day starts early on Monday - 8:30 with reg. and 9:00 start I think, I"ll have to look.

PMcMScot we too are anxiously awaiting FA. Sent them everything back in Jan when we were doing the other schools. We did have an update on teh CSS I have to send them, but the updated FAFSA showed that. Now the LONG wait .....

Congrats to all....

Hi mom1213 - The possibility of two in Baltimore at the same time...how nice for your D's and how convenient for you! And Baltimore is such a great city...not to mention D.C. nearby. I'm hoping that my two will end up in close proximity of each other, too. They would like that as well.

We are planning to go to the April 6th program. (It will be our 4th trip to the Baltimore/D.C. area this school year). My son still has a few more schools to hear from but probably won't until April 1st. He loved Goucher and can definitely picture himself there. We can, too. I think that going to meet other students and getting a more in-depth look at the school and programs will answer some questions for him. He would like to hear more about theater and writing at Goucher.

I'm a Goucher alum (from when it was all women). I can't say enough great things about the education and opportunities that I received when I was there. While I am not an actively involved alum I have been following Goiucher's growth and direction through the years, and continue to be impressed with all it has to offer. I am excited that my son is seriously considering this wonderful school. Still, and unfortunately, FA is going to be a factor so I will feel greatly relieved when we have full information and know what numbers we are dealing with.

We won't qualify for FA, but that does not mean we can afford $200,000 for Goucher! We're in California, and after speaking with admissions, we decided to go to a Goucher Day last fall. Son loved it, I thought he'd qualify for merit aid, and it became his first choice. We were NOT told that interviews would make such a difference, and they did not offer them during the visit. It's apparently not meant to be, but for those of you who do have the option, best of luck! It seems like a wonderful place for our kids to be.

My son and daughter are one year apart, also, and my son is leaning towards Goucher since he received the news of his acceptance (his sister is a junior in high school). He still has one school yet to hear from (American University).

We will definitely be there on April 6! Goucher seems to have a great energy about it, and the new Athenaeum sounds wonderful, in concept and design. My son has not made his final decision yet -- Goucher doesn't seem to have as many offerings in the business/economics area, which is his likely major.

We are not as affected by the merit aid/financial aid picture as many others -- best of luck in that regard, and I hope that there is the possibility of some other scholarship sources out there as well.

lyricmom, mom1213,

Perhaps we will run into each other on April 6th. Wear a name tag with your screen name. LOL. Or PM each other with our real names.

LongeyeMom - Def. we will touch base before we leave. It would be fun to meet some other cc moms.
We are all set as far as hotel goes. Worse case is that the FA is bad and we cancel hotel if it would make her feel bad that we can't afford it on top of her sister's tuition payments.

Hoping all get good new for FA -

Longeyemom, mom1213 -

Great idea! I hope we (and the kids) have a chance to meet up on April 6. As much as my son is looking forward to Accepted Students Day he will have just finished five performances of his high school play and is concerned that he will be exhausted. I'll probably be holding his head up and his eyes open. That should make us easy to spot. :)

magicsmom -

My son is also waiting to hear from American University (and a few other schools, too). I guess you and I will be doing this again next year with our D's. We've already spent some time looking at schools with my daughter since we were already in the process and she has some ideas about where and what she wants to study. Still, seeing kids off two years in a row...Yikes! I miss them already!

PMcMScot and cpeltz: when we visited the counselor emphasized that interviews weren't required for scholarships. There's no way they could require or encourage interviews just for scholarships, with students applying from all over the US and other countries... not everyone is able to make it to campus before the acceptance letter arrives, and no way they could interview so many students! Probably a good idea to call them directly to see if there's anything that can be done for merit $$.

Any news on the Goucher financial awards front? I left a voicemail and email. Caller volume is still high. If I don't hear something by tomorrow morning I will try again. Just wondering if anyone was able to get through?!

D's fin aid decision was posted on her Goucher FASTS account today. If yours is ready, you'll see and Awards tab that wasn't there earlier.
