<p>Since I have been a member on the CC MT Forum (which was originally a LONG thread!) for almost six years and have made various friends here over those years, I am going to share my daughter's admissions results but this is not for MT and so I don't want to add her to the list. Some have asked me since I do have a child in the admissions cycle again this year and so I am going to share. And I have to tell you all who are caught up in this admissions frenzy in this round, that it really never ends with your children as there will be either grad admissions, internships, jobs, and casting auditions and it just keeps going and going! </p>

<p>My oldest daughter is a senior at Brown majoring in architectural studies, a liberal arts degree. When she applied to college four years ago, she had to make a decision similar to the MT kids here who must choose either a BFA or a BA path. She had to choose between a BArch (five year) or a BA path. If you do a BA, then you must do a MArch to become an architect. So, to become an architect, you can either do a five year BArch (which is a commitment and professional degree program like a BFA) or do a BA (4 yrs) plus a MArch (which is either 3 or 3.5 years). She chose the latter route. </p>

<p>Getting into a MArch reminds me in some ways of BFA admissions because the admit rate to get in is very very low and so the odds are quite difficult at most of the MArch programs. Also, like a BFA, the biggest component of the admissions process is a sort of artistic type of review that is subjective....in this case, a portfolio. And like with a BFA where they build a class of different "types", a MArch program is a bit like that too. For instance, a third of the class in most programs are international students. The average age in most programs is about 27. The largest majority are NOT straight out of college. My D is currently 21 and will be straight out of college. She also chose to apply to ten of the top programs in the field and we just hoped she'd get in somewhere. She ended up with results beyond her expectations by far and so is a very happy camper. She is given until April 15 to decide. She got scholarships and/or fellowships at the schools. She has a leaning toward one of them but actually likes them all and doesn't want to turn any down. But even though she has a favorite at this point, she wants to make a very informed decision comparing them all and is doing visits to schools she had not yet been to and returning to others and attending open house events for accepted students in the programs. </p>

<p>She got into the graduate schools of architecture at: MIT, Columbia, Cornell, University of Virginia, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and Syracuse. </p>

<p>Thank you letsfigureitout and NMR. She is a lucky young lady to have such fine options and it is a hard decision as she hates turning any of them down but it sure is nice to be the one deciding now instead of the schools deciding. She's off visiting them all. Now, the stress is on us to find a way to pay for 3 1/2 more years of school! :eek:</p>

<p>I'm delighted to report that my D has reached her final decision. She has decided on Muhlenberg College. It has a perfect mix of academics and a fantastic theater dept. She'll be able to pursue her academic interests to a degree she wouldn't otherwise in most of these other programs (with the possible exception of one other school that she opted not to apply to at the last minute for unrelated reasons) :)<br>
Their obvious commitment to the performing arts is impressive, and they (both admissions and the head of the theater dept) have done a wonderful job of making her feel personally valued, wanted and appreciated. </p>

<p>Many thanks and hugs to my caring friends that I've met through CC, especially mesmom, and jacksdad, but many others as well, including those of you who wrote me to express support for me and indignation over a recent minor CC "controversy." My best wishes.</p>

<p>brownsugar, best wishes for your D at Muhlenberg. It is such a great program! I'm not sure if you are close enough to get back there on the weekend but I heard via a friend that they are doing a production of Zanna, Don't! It's a fun show and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Friends of ours were the original Zanna and Roberta in NYC. The fact that Muhlenberg is doing this show is one of the many positives about its program. Too often prospective students do not explore the types and variety of shows that a college program puts up. Interesting, compelling, and challenging shows are an important aspect of a theatre student's education. Bravo to Muhlenberg.</p>

<p>alwaysamom, thanks for your good wishes (and thanks to soozie too for her good wishes). Yes, we are going to see Zanna Don't this weekend. It's a student directed production, and my D is interested in exploring directing as a possible dual concentration together with acting within the theatre major, so she wants to watch this performance to see both the student performers and also to see what the student director was able to do! We were very impressed with the depth of the program at Muhlenberg at our multiple visits, and I couldn't be happier for and proud of my D. :)</p>
