<p>Quick note--Under the wait list section; Roosevelt and CCPA are the same school. Roosevelt is the name of the university; Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) is the school within the university that contains the music conservatory and the theatre conservatory. As I understand it, most of the students refer to it as CCPA.</p>
<p>This might be a stupid question but what is the difference between waitlisted and deferred?</p>
<p>Deferred technically applies to ED or EA. You don't get accepted ED or EA but instead of rejecting you, you get deferred to the RD pool for a later decision. Waitlisted is where you meet the criteria for admission but there are more students ahead of you who meet the criteria better than there are spots for acceptances but instead of rejecting you they put you on a list to come back to in the event the school doesn't get all of its spots filled from the acceptance list (i.e. their actual yield from the list still leaves spots open for the freshman class). I think that's the difference.</p>
<p>is one "better" than the other as far as acceptance?</p>
<p>Michael - correct me if I state this wrong. It seems from what Michael is saying - deferred means we had others we liked more for early decision in round one but we are putting you in the next round for consideration because after we see all the regular decison applicants we may accept you. It seems like you are up in the air like most of us that applied regular decision with a little indication that they did like you. </p>
<p>Waitlisted - it is like they are saying if we had more spots we'd take you right now today. And if the people we have accepted turn us down, you're next in line to get an acceptance.</p>
<p>MomOfAPrincess - love that name :), I am not Michael, but MTDad asked my to explain the same thing, not sure if it was this or the other acceptance thread (by name) and your interpretation is pretty much right "on". I do want to add that some schools, for example UMich, do not have ED/EA, and yet use the "deferred method" as a way of letting people know that they are still in the running, whereas they also send out rejection letters at the same time.</p>
<p>tltl - I don't know that you can really compare the two; schools just have different philosophies & processes. Even though one could argue that a waitlist is "closer" to an actual acceptance, if it is not followed by an acceptance letter, and someone who was deferred at first receives an offer for admission, what defines better? I think both cases are in a sense a reflection of accomplishment and in this process all those accomplishments deserve recognition :).</p>
<p>Also, some schools...as a matter of course...will not accept you until after your audition. They will "defer" your school acceptance until your audition is done and they have those results. So, if you apply early fall somewhere they may defer you until after your spring audition. Does not mean you will get in, but just that your application is "not complete" sort of and they are deferring until it is complete. On the other hand, many schools will accept you academically and it is totally seperate from the theatre school accepting you. In those cases, you might get a letter of acceptance to a school, but have to wait for the seperate letter (after auditioning) to find out if you get into the theatre program.</p>

<p>BTW, the CCPA letter said that they will let us know no later than May 15. I think I overheard at the school that they had 22 spots. Anyone remember how many spots and how many auditioned?</p>

<p>MOAP - I asked the same yesterday :D, Actingmom's D is applying to Acting programs only. CMU's first wave of notifications are done by phone. Also, I understand that they notify Acting applicants first, and they also may offer Acting slots to MT applicants.</p>
<p>Thanks MomOfAPrincess! MTgrlsmom is right she applied for acting only, although she was asked to audition for both auditors and to sing 2 songs - don't know why... The call came last night from Barbara Wood and unfortunately my D was at rehearsal and my husband and I were in a business meeting - so my son took the call. My D knows of one other boy from Minnesota callbacks who also was called last night - again he is straight acting. I'll keep you posted when I hear more information. My D is just stunned!</p>
