Is this what your RPI Website said before acceptance or denial?

"Thank you for submitting your application to Rensselaer for the fall of 2007. We are delighted that you are considering us as you plan for your future.

"Today we are beginning to mail our decision letters and will continue to do so throughout the month of March. We received an unprecedented number of applications for the Class of 2011. This has forced us to choose among an extraordinarily talented group of applicants who are truly impressive in both academics and extracurricular activities. Thank you again for your interest in Rensselaer."

I just got the acceptance packet in the mail today.. dated March 16 lol.
The financial aid is pretty nice.

This is what was on my page:

"Application Status for [name]

Clicking on the "view update" showed the decision.

Hope that helps. :) If you don't see it then.. I'm not sure what to say... maybe their decisions are rolling out.. slowly?

edit: I sent in my app November 29.. if that makes any difference...

I got in and I'll be attending as a Comp Sci major - I got quite a generous scholarship package which I don't think I'll be able to turn away ($23,000 a year). Congratulations to the rest of you who got in!

TheOtherOne...wow congratulations on your scholarship award package! I'm hoping RPI will add some aid onto my medal because it doesn't put a very significant dent into the 50k for the first year...

No T- shirt yet (? ) but S got in using Candidate's Choice application in January 2007 RD . He got his aid package ( combination of legacy , need-based & a lot of merit & loans ) so he is up there seeing it today . We have to send deposit pretty quickly so I hope he makes up his mind fast !

Does anyone think that $6000 of loans for Freshmen years at RPI is high ??? We figure he could get the mandatory first year computer with some of it ???

FWIW, I have heard a rule of thumb is not to take out loans exceeding the expected starting salary after graduation. Current engineering grads are getting up to $60K, depending on major, so a $6K loan per year doesn't seem unreasonable by that measure.

Assuming 4 years at $6K/year, a $24K loan at 8% over 10 years has a payment of about $300 per month. Of course, the loans may increase each year to cover tuition increases. A $33K loan would be about $400 per month.

This are not trivial payments, but certainly doable with a $60K salary. It might be a different story if the major has a lower starting salary or if grad school is in the future. Heck, the high school kid next door to me probably has payments that big on his used Nissan 300ZX. Your mileage may vary.
