hey is anyone planning on attending either the drexel/drexel or lehigh/drexel or have any feedback?

im planning on attending Brown's PLME :D got letter today

If you decide to attend the Drexel/Drexel program, can you apply out to other medical schools and rely on Drexel Med as a safety?

i'm pretty sure you could apply to other schools, but by doing so you would be giving up your spot at Drexel

i'm pretty sure i'll be doing the drexel/drexel program.

If you apply out to other schools, you lose your guaranteed seat at DUCOM

lets say i got all A's and B's (im normally an A student) and one C, for the third quarter. If i bring those up to mostly As and one or two Bs for the last quarter, i shouldnt be kicked out of the program, right?

lol, senioritis hit me before acceptances -_-

come on guys im freaking out lol.
and i just remembered, i think final grades for senior year are sent as final grades (not quarterly, so if I get an A and it averages to a B, i should be fine)

any input?

the disease hit me HARD also man. I just hope the teachers are nice to me the final quarter. it worked last term... LOL

they usually dont kick pple out of the program unless they get D's right?

i have a couple Q's about being in the program itself:

1) the letter says that we have to meet 3.5 by the end of the 2nd yr, so do they just check once? and how lenient are they if u don't meet 3.5 by then?

2) can we take some of the classes during the summer quarter, since we're approved for 10 quarters of financial aid?

3) if AP credits bypass certain classes, then we don't need to substitute in upper division classes? (i.e. if u pass out of chem 101, u only need to take 2 more chem classes in 102/103 right?)

@spacejam You should probably be fine.

@sports61kh

You have until the end of that time period to have a 3.5. It can drop below 3.5 before the end of your second year, but as long as you are at it or above by then you're good.

Yes you can take summer classes, but i'm not sure how it factors in with financial aid.

yes you are correct.

thanks for the quick reply

just bringing up some questions as i think of them cuz i’m gonna decide pretty soon:

since i like to do stuff b/c i like doing it and not for the sake of admissions, we’re not required to do any of the usual extracurriculars a regular premed student would have to do? (i.e. volunteering, researching, etc)

oh and since they only check in with ur GPA after soph yr, can u then slack off during the 3rd yr?

do u have to be in the pennoni honors college if ur in the program?

my letter says that the med school reserves the right to amend the requirements, and we may have to meet the new ones. does this actually happen, or do the new requirements (if any) only apply to future students?

TIA, i know it’s a bunch of probably trivial stuff

its cool sports61kh, I had to consider all this stuff before deciding to come to drexel.

NO, you are not required to do any club and/or volunteer activities apart from the 5 hours that all incoming freshmen are required to do.

NO, you really still can’t drop below a 3.5 or get lower than a C even in the your senior year. I mean, as far as I’ve heard, senior year is supposed to be an easy year.

As far as I know, you don’t have to accept it, but all BS/MDs are in it. But i really would be in the honors college so you can live in race. Race is the best dorm and only decent dorm to live in.

Not in the past. The year before us has to get a 27 on the MCATs and a 3.3 GPA. And then, they set the new requirements for my year, a 29 and a 3.5. But the 2nd years still kept their old requirements. I personally think its just a legal statement they put in there. Just like, you might get denied even if you meet all the requirements.

Hopefully this will help you

hey Vespertilio, i also have a few questions before i make my decision.
You were talking about senior year being the easiest, but dont you only stay at drexel for three years and then move to medical school?
also is it likely/unlikely that even after meeting all the requirements, they may still not accept you at Drexel Medical School?
is it relatively easy to maintain the 3.5 and 31 on mcat ie meeting the requirements?
i have to decide between drexel and lehigh (and cornell but leaning toward lehigh)
can you major in anything you please and can you use ap credit?
thanks in advance!!

By senior year, I meant your third year.

As long as you meet the all of the stated requirements, you’ll be let into the med school. They only put that language on the contract to give themselves some legal cover.

As long as you don’t do anything stupid, and study well for the mcats you’ll be fine.

One my friends here was in the exact same position as you, having to choose between cornell, lehigh/drexel and drexel/drexel. He said that the first thing he did was decide if he wanted to go to a medical program or a normal 4 year track. he really liked Cornell but the security of an accelerated program is way too much to pass off. And you will really appreciate the program as you see everyone else around you having to plan and deal with the entire admissions process again. And the choice for drexel over lehigh for him was solely on the environment. He said that he like the city environment more than the mountain that you have to climb daily at lehigh. Also, drexel usually gives you more scholarship money, so since you’re ending up at the same place at drexel med, it doesn’t really matter which undergrad path you take, so he chose the one that would cost him significantly less over these first three years.

thanks for the info Vespertilio!
im still waiting on the Lehigh package but that is going to be a heavy influence on my decision. Also, regarding majors, can one major in anything while in the program? (like chemical engineering or what not?)

i heard that u only need 7 honors credits to stay in the honors college, which is about 3 classes, so can we just take 3 of those classes listed as HON-something?
and if we decide to do honors now, can we drop out (voluntarily) after any quarter? and does this have a bearing on our status in the BA/MD program?

would u mind explaining a bit the big advantages of honors here compared to regular stuff? like obviously it’s awesome to live in better-quality housing, but like how great of an advantage is it to register for classes much earlier? is it really hard to get the classes/profs that u want at drexel?

and how much has the study plan for bio majors changed from the welcome PDF plan sample plan? i was wondering this b/c on the PDF, the credits come out to about 150, while the bio major itself requires like 180+ credits. does the BA/MD program skip some of the classes and stuff? idk if ur a bio major or not, so it might be like “***?” to u lol

and thanks for the earlier reply, sry i didn’t get to it sooner

@infmous
yea you can major in anything within the college of arts and sciences, but i think that they just changed it for biomed engineers and other engineers to make it a 8 year program for them

@sports61kh
Getting the honors credit is pretty easy. There is no point at all of dropping out of the honors college, and being a member of it gives you things like early registration, tickets to honors events (like operas, sports games, and other fun events in the city) as well as free printing in the honors lounge. Early registration helps as the best teachers usually fill up pretty quickly, or classes at a certain time will fill up fast. Since it’s something thats not that hard to join and doesn’t require any effort at all to maintain you membership in it, you might as well be a apart of the honors college.

We don’t have to take a lot of the required that regular students have to take here. For example, none of the bio major bs/mds have to take bio 123.
