Acceptances to Drexel college of medicine (villanova, lehigh, drexel...undergrad)

hey Vespertilio, thanks again
another question, i checked the website and the college of arts and sciences does not include engineering. is it possible to still major in some type of engineering and still be in the program, even if one was to finish in eight years?

hey, i should have made my self a little more clear. College of arts and sciences majors (english, chem, bio, physics, psyc, etc) are 3 years undergrad, while engineering majors (college of engineering or college of biomedical engineering) are 4 years undergrad

are you allowed to switch schools to engineering, because i got into the college of arts and sciences?
thanks in advance man, you are a big help

so basically, to be in the honors college:

-do the BA/MD thing like normal
-take like 3 of the HON courses (we can choose when/what classes right?)
-go to 2 of the honors events like sports, concerts, etc?

oh and when i go to submit my deposit/matriculation stuff online, i get 2 options:
1)Fall semester 09-10 medicine/fast track/etc
2)Fall quarter 09-10 undergrad/biological sciences/etc

which one(s) should i choose?

i’m confused about which option to choose too…because the first option shows no tuition deposit while the second one does.

hey Vespertilio
i have a question about drexel/drexel program…how hard is it to maintain the 3.5 gpa and 31 mcat?
are the classes very competitive?

When i did the matriculation stuff/ pay my deposit i called into the office directly (I talked with Catherine Campbell-Perna and i’m assuming she’s the same person who has been in contact with all of you). So i would just call in to make sure that everything goes smoothly.
@infmous I’m not sure, I’d contact the admissions office.
@sports yup that’s exactly right, you don’t have to expend any extra effort to be in the honors college. All of the bs/mds here right now are also honors students.
@football09 I don’t think that the gpa requirements are that hard to meet so far. As long as you don’t screwup (partying toooo much or not studying at all or something) you’ll meet the requirements. I haven’t taken the mcats yet, but from what I hear from the older bs/mds along as you practice enough and study for them beforehand you’ll be fine. You’ll probably get a list of bs/mds to contact, so you could probably ask one of the second or third years directly.

So far (I’m in my first year here) the classes really haven’t been that hard. It’s been pretty easy to get As or A-s in most of my classes. The freshmen sequence of classes is really easy, an you shouldn’t have any probs academically. The classes don’t have any bell curves or anything, so even though you’re in classes with other bs/mds and stuff you’re don’t have to compete for the A grade with them.

i know that we probably can’t take courses for our major pass/fail, but how many of the 150-160 total credits are we allowed to take pass/fail?

and so the classes have straightforward grading? like w/e letter grade u get is what u get? or is there a different modified curve?

thanks a bunch vespertilio for going over this stuff, you’ve gotta be pretty busy yourself lol

are there many bs/md students that take part in the STAR program?

uh there are NO classes at drexel that are pass/fail for bs/mds, and you have to get a c or higher in all your classes. Classes here have a straightforward grading system.

@coolbabypandy there a couple in my year who are doing star (i’m doing it) and i know a number of people in the older years who have done it.

so drexel gives AP credit to 4’s and 5’s, but not 3’s right?
but it’s just that u can skip more classes with 5’s than 4’s

For bs/md students drexel gives ap credit for 4s and 5s. I believe that you receive the same amount of credit for both scores.

cool thanks a lot

did u find that most of the BS/MD students had a lot of AP credit? like how many AP tests did they usually have under their belt? b/c i don’t have that many (which is another reason why i’ll probably do honors college) and i wanna know how tough it is possibly for ppl w/ little or no AP credit?

some have a lot, and some don’t. If you have it just means you’re taking less credits per term, but it’s definitely doable even if you don’t have much ap credit

that’s good to know thanks

vespertillo,
i have some questions about the contract.

It says in order to remain in the program and receive final acceptance, I must receive the endorsement of my candidacy to the COM by Drexel University’s Committee on Medical School Credients, or its equivalent, if any. What does that mean?

It asks us to sign where it says "Even if I fulfill all the above requirements throughout my participation in the Program, I still must receive the final acceptance into the College of Medecine by its Medical Student Admissions Committee. Could you explain this too?

Was this in your contract too?
Please answer as soon as possible.

My daughter is going to Drexel 7 year BS/MD program.

Congrats itmom!

About that language, basically the COM puts that in the contract to ensure that if you screw up some how, (idk like get arrested, or get disciplined by the office of judicial affairs or something for some offense like plagiarism) it gives the COM a legal out of sorts. Basically if you screw up over the next three years (non-academically) they have a way to rescind your acceptance into the school of medicine. I wouldn’t worry about that however, as everyone who meets the academic requirements (gpa and MCAT) usually matriculates into DUCOM

hey vespertilio, im going to the drexel program as well. i was just wondering where most of the bs/md kids dorm at? i was thinking race but i wasnt sure.

hey vespertilio, i was just about to ask the same question as infmous…
I’m going to drexel as well and i was filling out my housing app and it said race was filled up…whats the next best dorm with all the bs/md kids?
