Susan, thanks for sharing your d's experience with us. We have a growing list of questions to ask as we narrow down my son's choices, and we will definitely look into the schools' policies for allowing study abroad through other colleges. As I said, it probably wouldn't be a deal-breaker, but he would like to know that he had the option. Again, I am very grateful for the experience of the parents here--thank you!

I got my letter in the mail, and I will be going to Shenandoah for their Musical Theatre program with an emphasis on voice!!!!!!! :) I am soooooooo excited!! :) I loved everything about that school from the students, to the faculty, and their amazing involvment in the community!! :) I just cant wait!!!

Congratulations, managy! My son is still considering Shenandoah. Sounds like the school is a great fit for you. I wish you all the best!

Inaspotlight is my d and this weekend she decided to be part of.............SHENANDOAH CLASS OF 2010!!!!!! We are all thrilled for her and she is so excited to be going there!!

Yay! What a load off the shoulders to have a decision made. It is a chance now to look ahead with excitement. And I'm happy for you, mom, that this part of the process is OVER!

Has anyone received a financial packet from Shenandoah yet? We are waiting, hate to be a pain to them by calling due to the volume of calls that they get at this time of year but, we have decisions to make and they are the only one who hasn't sent anything.

MTMumzie...I don't think you'd be a pain to call and ask when the FA documents should be expected as you are weighing options and cannot until you receive them and need a time frame. It is a legitimate question as it is after April 1.

Thanks Soozievt,

Had a private message from someone today and they had called and were told mid April, which is cutting it too close for one opportunity my D has with another University MT program, so I have called them to let them know we really need it prior to April 10th, they said they will get back to me....hmmmmm? Just playing that waiting game a little longer...whew!

My d got her financial pkg from Shenandoah today.

Yes, so did my d!!! We are pleased!!

Congratulatoins on your D's decision, notfromme! I can imagine its a big relief to know she'll be settled in at a good place. My S is still mulling over his choices and we hope to revisit each finalist in the next two weeks. Groan Also, we've not gotten our financial package from Shenandoah yet.

Wow, talked again to Shenandoah financial aid, they now tell me 3-4 weeks to get a financial aid packet...we can't wait that long, May 1st will be here and we may end up on the short end of the stick if we don't submit the retaining fees at the other school...any advice from fellow cc'ers?....it is between here and another school, she likes both but wanted to see where the best financial deal was going to be....

Just wondering if everyone has gotten their financial aid yet? We have the acceptance letter and deposit on the way. (We decided to do it through the mail since it seems that they have a few glitches with the new computer system!!) She has her Shenandoah Conservatory decal in the back window of her car...it is really going to happen now. Does anyone know how to slow down time??!! sigh Not ready for this one...she is too much a part of this home. Oops...better quit or this will need to go to the "emo" thread!!! Hope everyone is doing well!

I have gotten my financial aid package about two weeks ago... maybe you should call the school, because they told all the auditionees my day, that if you were missing any part of your application, that wouldn't send out any more information.. .Just call the school though. They are very nice and try to help out in every way possible.

My D auditioned on Jan. 20th, and received a phone call on the evening of the 25th from Margie Sobczynski telling her of her acceptance. We certainly were not expecting to hear that soon, so she was thrilled!

Good luck to all others who have auditioned or will be!

Congratulations!! I will be anxious to hear your d's final decision!

My daughter was also accepted to the MT program. She was also accepted at CALARTS for the classical program just two miles from our home. MT is her passion and she has decided to attend Shenandoah. I am worried about her moving 3 thousand miles away from home.

Please... someone who already goes there, or another parent with a child already attending Shenandoah, let me know the following:
Is there a good support system if they become homesick?
Since the conservatory is relatively small, does the faculity look after the students to make sure they are doing all of the things they need to be doing?
Do I sound like a crazy mom? This is all new to me!!

KMF's Mom,

You are a mother and you have every right to have this questions! Just breathe! haha. I remember when my mom dropped me off at college, she was balling!!

My name is Mikey and I am a current musical theatre freshman! Ok, here are some of my answers!

1) Is there a good support system if they become homesick?
-The telephone is the best! I hope you have an "in" program for your cell phone! That is the best. My mom and I talk pretty much every day to just say hello or whatnot.

-Shenandoah also has a family weekend in September, and throughout the year (at test times) families have the option of sending their child care packages!

-Email or sending postage mail is always nice too!

2) Since the conservatory is relatively small, does the faculity look after the students to make sure they are doing all of the things they need to be doing?
- OMG YES! Classes are very small and all the faculty will know you by name. They are a great faculty that wants to make sure you are not waisting your money here. They push you and help you along the journey of your years here. Plus every student has advisors that can help with ANYTHING! About classes, keeping on track with your curriculum, getting scheduled for classes, etc.

3) Do I sound like a crazy mom?
-Absolutley not! You are a loving mother and 3000 miles is very far away. But Shenandoah has such a great environment! My mom was very scared for me to go away from home (Ohio is where I live), but she admitted she was very comfortable in leaving me at Shenandoah. The faculty/students are so nice, and the atmosphere is very supportive.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask! You can ask here, PM me, or even email at mnagy@su.edu.

Hope this helps!!
-Mikey
