accepted already...

Some of my friends are already being accepted into colleges, while all of my college say that decisions will be made available in late March. Do these acceptances only occur with colleges that have rolling admissions, or do colleges just accept exceptionally qualified candidates very early? Thanks

Most of these are probably for rolling admissions. Genererally, I think, less-elite colleges have rolling admissions. So the fact that you have to wait probably just means you're applying to more selective schools.

However, I have heard through college confidential that some extremely selective schools such as Harvard, Princeton and Yale (HPY) and others send "likely letters." These are sent to top athletes (to avoid recruitment competition) and I dunno, musician geniuses or something.

I doubt this is the case for so many of your friends, so most likely they were simply for rolling admission schools. I'm sure your friends would tell you, if you asked! Everyone loves talking about acceptances!

To learn more about likely letters, I suggest you do a search of one of these forums for "likely letters", this will help you understand them more. Anyway, they are not even an official offer of admission, but rather a statement that one will most likely be admitted.
