Accepted and Invited to MOSAIC Multicultural Weekend!!!

congrats on your admission. I hope you wait till all your letters are in hand before you decide you can’t afford Vandy. Nothing wrong with being very careful about money and loans but you might be surprised…so hope you will come and enjoy the Mosaic experience and not put the pressure on yourself about if you will attend or not till you have all your offers in hand. Also appeals letters with data that is mitigating are always reviewed so don’t neglect to fully inform the financial aid department of your circumstances if any factors are not reflected properly in the forms.

20more, according to the current Common Data Set (CDS 2010-2011) the latest freshman class included somewhere between 6-7% “non-Hispanic Asian”. I think this is self-reported data. Some students prefer not to identify as any particular category, and some check more than one, so if anything the actual percentage may be slightly higher.

I also got an acceptance and mosaic invitation! I think I’m the first to post here from New York. I was born in the US but my parents were born in Taiwan. I probably won’t attend the mosaic weekend though because I can’t miss work on the weekends.

congratulations, camilla. if we can help you with vanderbilt connections so you can understand the college better, let us know. I am sure that admissions would for instance consider having a current student email you if you have questions…perhaps someone with a similar background. I wish you could come to mosaic so you would have first hand info to compare in April but best wishes on your options and congrats.

Any invitees living outside of the U.S.? I heard that Mosaic is for US living applicants only and want to be assured.

“I heard that Mosaic is for US living applicants only” (post 45)

^^^ha ha, sorry to laugh, but I’m imagining a Mosaic weekend full of US dead applicants.

^ Oops, ‘residing’ rather than ‘living’ XD

Hey, I got in!!! I was invited to the MOSAIC weekend, and I’m definitely going.

I put “multiracial” in the box (Black, White, Other).

Anyone interested in connecting so that we know each other once we get there?

send me a PM and I’ll give you my email.

On diversity.

Here’s what I’ve heard and read.

It seems like there is growing diversity at Vandy, but to a certain degree, it is considered superficial by many students. That is to say, the school is self-segregated socially. Obviously, Greek life is big over there, and I read that a lot of the greek societies are primarily mono-racial, so that segregates the social experience further.

This is just what I’ve read, but I feel like if you’re someone who is comfortable around all types of people, then you will have a good social life as a minority or not. A lot of the segregation, I presume, is due to people naturally just sticking with their own group of people.

Anyways, I can’t wait to see others at MOSAIC.

PS. Everyone go to youtube and look up the song “black and gold”

I got in too! I applied RD ^^v I live in Nashville though and since Vandy takes a good lot of its students from this area I wasn’t worried. That’s why I made it my back-up school. It’s an amazing school though. It’s really been rising in the general american public’s eye too. vandy is one of the very many reasons Nashvillians have to be proud =D. My essays had diversity in every single one of them when I was applying to college so MOSAIC is definitely something I will be attending. It gives me a chance to hang out with my cousins too so I’m all for it. I got to Vandy all the time. I could show you guys around when you arrive or get my cousins too anyway.

actually about the segregation thing thats pretty true. theres an african american building at vandy and some white kids don’t know whether or not theyre “allowed” to enter it. like seriously why wouldn’t you be XD. silly kids. but honestly 2 of my cousins go to vandy and they have a great mix of friends. so i think its about the individual and who you role best with. also since vandy is predominantly white (and their making efforts to increase the minority population) i guess it makes segregation stand out more even if its not intentional.

oh an btw (sorry for such a long post) but i faxed them my stuff and they havent sent me confirmation yet so im kinda worried. but even if they dont i could always just decide to go on campus on my own for the weekend lol. i was just wondering is anyone else has been having the same problem.

Is anyone from the west coast arriving on Wednesday afternoon/night? I will be arriving then and since there are no Mosaic activities planned, I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in joining me in walking around campus to get the feel of it…just message me and I’ll be sure to respond

by the way…SO EXCITED TO MEET EVERYONE :)

Should a minority who applied RD and did NOT get an invitation assume they are going to be rejected?

No, I know minorities who didn’t get the invite but were still accepted RD.

this is a good question…you should read the admissions blog at vandy to hear a direct answer. just google vandy admissions blog and go back a couple of days and Mosaic is addressed. There is also a brief article at insidevandy.com today requesting student hosts which explains things.

Good luck with your Vandy application and with all of your decision making in April.

@20 lol i don’t know who you were with or what you saw but there are a good bunch of asians at vandy. international and non. one of my cousins friends has a chinese international transfer student as his roommate. also i personally know many asians who attend vandy. in fact, i believe there are more asians than the other minorities put together.

^nah 8% black
5% Asian

5% really. maybe its just because i see so many of the vandy asians so often that i think there are a lot of them. that availability heuristic can getcha sometimes.

@wabamaccepted
I just did not see many Asian students when I visited.

I was also invited! Latina from the ATL

Oh I’m definitely going. Is anyone else excited abt the free time we get? I’m crazy excited!

Hey guys. Does anyone happen to have the schedule for the weekend? If so, do you mind copying it below? It would be extremely helpful and thanks in advance!
