Hey there!

I was accepted to the Honors Program, and also offered a huge scholarship.

I would be majoring in computer science, and I know nothing about the program. In reality, I want to major in something that combines computer programming with 3D computer graphics, like Penn's Digital Media, Purdue's Computer Graphics Technology, and Georgia Tech's Computational Media. I don't know if there's any way I can do that at Purdue. There are 3 animation courses, but they might be flash (and therefore 2D).

I like Boston for the proximity to my home near Philly, but I'm not usually a big fan of cities. I want to go to a college where I feel very safe (but I know that I wouldn't walk around alone at night anywhere anyway).

I do not want to go to a school where this is constantly drinking and drugs. There must be other fun things to do, and considering it is Boston there must be lots of movie theaters and shopping. I also want to get involved in lots of clubs, like dance groups and Hillel.

I like the look of green on a campus, want good food, and nice dorms.

Do does Northeastern sound like a good match for me?

I have always felt safe on the NU campus as well as in Roxbury where I do community service. I also don’t walk around alone at night. My roommate has never felt unsafe walking from the library to IV late at night/early in the morning. I’ve always felt safe in Ruggles and there are always NUPD in there.

A lot of people do drink here, but there are sooooooo many other things to do. I love watching movies and going to movie theaters, and that is one of my favorite parts of living in Boston. Of course there’s the Regal theater by Fenway (about a mile from NU, you can either walk or take a bus) and the AMC theater right off the Chinatown stop on the orange line, but my favorite theater is the Somerville Theater in Davis Square. Cheapest theater in the Boston area and it shows movies that aren’t always shown elsewhere. The Kendall Square Cinema is also very nice (although it takes some maneuvering to get to-- it’s off the red line, but you have to cross a few busy streets to get to it). And I’m sure there are even more theaters that I have yet to discover!

What kind of shopping are you looking for? We’ve got the Pru and Newbury Street super close to NU and there are lots of cute, quirky shops in Harvard Square.

Club involvement is definitely encouraged here.

For a city campus, NU has a good deal of green. Have you visited? All my friends that have visited me here and ate the IV dining hall have been very, very impressed. Of course, eating the same food for months on end can get tedious for anyone, but I still like the food here. And knowing that I’d be living in IV is one of the reasons I chose NU over Tufts (obviously not the main reason, but I’m so glad I’m living here). Have you visited IV?

Let me know if you have any other questions! (I can speak to being a freshman in the honors program-- sorry I don’t know anything about Computer Science!)

For your specific questions about Computer Science, you may want to contact some faculty at CCS/NU:
[Faculty | College of Computer and Information Science](http://www.ccs.neu.edu/people/faculty.html)
Also browse through the CCS website.

I am a Northeastern grad and a Penn/Wharton grad (MBA). I can tell you for sure that the area around Penn is not a safe area at all. Northeastern’s Fenway and Mission Hill neighborhoods are much nicer and safer than West Philadelphia.

I haven’t visited… yet. I like any kind of shopping, and considering its Boston I knew there would be plenty.

I’ll probably visit soon, but I have two other schools that I’m strongly considering (Georgia Tech and Purdue) so I have no idea where I’ll end up

My friend is in Interactive Media and Design dual in CCIS (well, he’s in the old dual called Multimedia) and is in love with it. Check it out online.

What kinds of thing do they do in the program? Animation? Websites? Do they use Maya or 3Ds Max? I’m not sure about Northeastern, mostly because I’m not really sure its the program I want. And if it is, do they have good connections to get internships, Coops, and jobs. Do students get placed with Pixar, Electonic Arts, Dreamworks, Zynga, or whatever else?

I know there are several combinations in the Creative Industries program, but I couldn’t actually find useful information about them online. I will probably go visit over spring break and find someone to ask questions to.
